Hey go for the quad if you're worried about the rear....I for one have never seen a cop hitting anyone with a laser from the rear. I'm sure they probably do it somewhere....with some sort of a set up with additional units up ahead, but it's not enough for me to spend an extra $250 (or whatever it is).

I'm in for the group buy btw, even though I'm already on the waiting list....I haven't actually paid anything so it's all good.

Go Cornhuskers!
Well that's good and all, but 1) it's a state statute so the issue of any city regulations is moot. 2) since the FCC does not regulate the visual spectrum, just the electromagnetic (radio, etc.), and IR is technically visible light, it is not a federal question, and thus not subject to federal regulation, so it is left to each individual state to regulate such items.

BTW.....this is one of the best threads I've ever seen.
The front only protects the front and protected the car next to me driving.. With 2 heads in the front grill on my set up it will only again protect the front.. I did a test with 1 of the heads since I have a quad set up and with 1 head on the back and 1 had on the front I was able to jam center of mass shots and the only readings with 1 head on the front and 1 head on the back were on the far corners of the car such as the headlights and taillights.

For full 100% protection front and back you would need 2 heads up front and 2 behind. But like I mentioned I would have the 2 heads installed in the back but I dont have fold down rear seats so running wires is a lot of trouble for me.

$250 per extra head is what it comes out to.. The control box seems to be the cheapest part and the creator of the LI stated the reason for the high price of the jammer heads are the laser diodes used.

After looking at your install photos, wouldn't attaching them to the underside of the top of the center front lower intake work nicely? That way it wouldn't be blocked by the kidneys? I already have my front radar mounted behind the right kidney...
Yes that will work also, as long as you have 2 heads in the front placed horizontally that should be good to jam the gun anywhere..

The reason I chose my location is 1 stealth, 2 more protection from rocks/weather hitting them and it was easier to mount level which is important, along with easy to run the wires. If you look down below its a heck of a lot of trouble to run the wires. Plus my instal location someone cant come up and take them off my car for some odd reason and I dont have $250 a head down the drain.

But the kidney grills dont seem to have any effect at all on jamming, the only negative effects on jamming is placing the heads vertically which the LI is not designed for. due to the spread of the laser diode beam is what I have been told.

And since most folks dont have access to lidar guns I would recommend a copy cat set up to what I have since we at least know its works 100%. And like I said its hard to get a nice level mount on the bumper since everything is angled and curved.

Wow...ya I'm definately just going to stick with the 2 up front. Sorry if you already mentioned this....but the blinder can't be block by anything...even by plastic grills....so why is it that the LI doesn't have this same issue? You have yours placed behind the grills and it obviously works great, so I was just curious.

EDIT: you answered my question on the above post...you're too fast.

And Andrew, Nebraska has laws against radar jammers, but not actual laser jammers, just an FYI.

Guys,

There is already a group buy going on over at an STI forum.

It was posted in the marketplace here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=112030

The link doesn't seem to be working anymore but I'm sure we can track them down if someone joins over there.

Alll we need is one person to coordinate a list here and then work with the OP form the STI site to get in on their GB. That way, we get the GB price for a much larger group and we all don't need to go register over there.

So who's gonna check it out?

Sounds good. Go for it. The only thing I caution is the price of $550 i think was an early cost estimate given for the price of the unit (I remember seeing this last summer and got excited since a laser park pro 1 head system is about $700).. I know 4 folks who have bought them and we all paid $650 which I think is the price that was set as soon as the units were available for sale.

So, the price here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...ighlight=lidar
starts @ $550.00 and they will give you additional 10% for a decent GB..?>?>?

At $495.00 per unit I think I was right on target with my initial GB Price Suggestion

So, let's get back to the big question: If we get 10 or more people to buy this product, will we get the same $495.00 Price???

I have talked with members of the guys of lidar along with meeting up several times with a local who has the equipment to test different set ups. Personally he has the LPP system on his truck (4 heads front an 2 heads rear) and the LI on his motor cycle. He also has had system such as the blinder and Escort shifter, and is very knowledgeable and has taught me the most about jammers.
funny you say the LPP isn't great - of all the ones i looked into, the LPP fitted the bill perfectly. i previously had the blinder twins before, and find my LPP much more effective.
i fitted mine under my front number plate (we have to have them here in the UK):

can you see it yet?

look a bit closer:

and the controls of the beast:

fitting was easy, and wiring neat and tidy... feel free to ask any questions.

big pimp- so it looks like you only have one front head? thats exactly where I was talking about mounting them.

Im confused about the head count now. I thought the most basic "system" included 2 heads, no?

That link for the group buy over on the subie forum appears to be dead... Guess we can start a new one. But, they stated the basic 2 head unit is $550 with discounts going from there based on the size of GB.

yeah mate, i only have 1 fitted as the LPP seems to disperse quite well. it's also the 1st place they try to catch your reading over here, as the front license plate is reflective.

i have a 2nd head and some people have suggested i try and fit it close to a headlight, but i really think if it aint broke why fix it.

some users have tried locating it arount the rear view mirror, but were gotting conflicting signals, and some have suggested i rear-mount it, although if you are rear mounting, you would really be best with 2 as the rear of the car is much larger, and flatter, therefore a larger target area.
