Just did mine and a friends this afternoon. Took 20 min each complete. Jacking the car might have been the most difficult step. Bled both without a special pump or gadgets.
Love it. I couldn't tell immediatly, but I feel like I can drive a manual again. Highly reccomended DIY. Just loose 5lbs before trying to slide under the car!

HyperM3 ~ i finally got my E90 335i
Hi guys, Honestly I really dont have a problem driving the stick, 1st gear doesnt seem jumpy (it feels exactly like my prelude). So I dont know if the CDV is warranted at this point. Please Note... i havent romped on it yet so it may be light and day at that point. the reason im posting is because i did feel the slip caused by the CDV when going from 4-5 or 5-6, i literally felt it slip and i know this over time will add wear to the clutch. I didnt like feeling this on my new car. And it made me wonder which would fail first... a clutch due to the slipping or the hardware the CDV protects... and which would cost less to repair. Nobody will have these answers. all that ^ crap being said... i'll prob get the cdv replacement... but not just yet. thanks guys for allowing me a minute of your life ppp

I think the question of CDV replacement is one of personal driving style and only you know which is the right way to go.

Easy CDV mod DIY, if you want to replace your CDV so it looks stock.
Set the CDV down on a flat hard surface, big end down. Use a flat end punch , no larger than 5mm diameter, insert through the small end and give it (the punch) a good tap. The orifice plate and the backup plastic part will pop out. The CDV is now completely open. No muss, no fuss, no debris. Just found this out by accident. I got a replacement CDV, and was set to drill out the innards, but before any real drilling started, the force of the drill press pushed out the working parts. Since a replacement CDV is only about $5.50, this is a no-brainer. |

Well, actually according to Zeckhausen:
"The solution is to replace* the CDV with a modified valve which has had the interior parts carefully removed. We do not drill these valves. ..." |

Why do this, just take out your CDV, and if there is an issue, put it back on.
You would think if their is a tranny issue, they will see that the CDV is missing its insides upon teardown. |

Just got done installing my modified CDV from Zeckhausen. Took me about an hour I'd say...most of that time was spent on getting a wrench on that bleed valve...it's tricky and there isn't much room to manuever. Actually replacing the CDV itself didn't take much time at all. I was shocked at just how much fluid came out when I uncoupled the old CDV before I could get the new on on. Now to go out and drive for a while and see what the difference is.

Let us know how you like the new feel.
Next time, use a set of pliers to crimp the line. That will eliminate most of the leak. I still bled mine afterwards just to be safe.

Wish I had known about that before I did this. Didnt bleed it though and everything still feels fine. 15mins no bleeding, 1hr with bleeding. Your choice.

hi guys, i am a noob at driving manual, i just received my 335i coupe this tuesday, may 29, i have been practising day and night non-stop, and i feel what you guys were talking about, 1-2 shifts have weird clutch engagement, and rather slow clutch grab
because i am a noob, how long do you guys think i have to drive this car before i am experienced enough to drive manual with the modded CDV, or without CDV? and, will bmw check this cdv mod, or cdv removal? |

I ordered my modified clutch delay valve before I even got my car, but now that I have had my car for a week I can say that I really don't feel any problems with shifting smoothly or rev-matching in my car with the CDV. I am driving it easy for the break-in so maybe once I start romping on the car shifting fast will become a problem, but for the time being the car feels fine. I still plan on doing the CDV, but for now the car is fine.

Driving normal, you wont feel the CDV doing much, its when you start romping on it and trying to shift quick between 1 and 2. You will see once your done breaking the car in.
