hey guys, I have changed the oil last year and started to have issues, when I pressed the accelerator hard shifting from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th i had hard jolt, like tranny could not shift and I thought it's gonna blow up, and then, I have long delays that dont feel right while shifting, and also when stopping, there is a jolt or bump, or delay.
I have changed oil in transmission last year in indie garage, ordering filter and oil from UK. and even though, I ordered FEBI oil, the VAICO ATF was the one that came, but I was assured that the quality is the same, even though, I don't know what quality is FEBI either. so that's one thing. i had diagnostic of tranny but nothing came, however, this is mechanical, so I don't expect it to do come up with something. i guess it needs to go out and be changed....am afraid, that change actually made it worse |

Got aluminum pan installed last weekend
Did the install. 5.5 L of fluid came out and about same went back in. Here are some finished up pictures. I used a nice pump (sorry no picture of it) that has a ball valve near end of hose. End of hose has a wand with a hooked shaped tube to hook it into side port while pumping.
I didn't reset adaptations as it was shifting fine before fluid change. I pulled trigger early at 37,9xx miles because i wanted to install the pan. Fluid was slightly darker brown than the new fluid (very light brown/yellow). I used the gasket and filter made to go with the alpina pan. I torqued the screws at 105 in-lb. This was the conversion from 12 N-m if my memory serves. I was under car today doing unrelated work and removed the bottom panels for these photos. I did not cut a hole in the lower close out panel for the pan to get ventilation but am looking into that. |

Very nice. ZF should equip all autos with a metal pan or at least with a reasonable gasket

Update: When i installed pan earlier this year, I had put the bottom closeout panel back on covering up the ability to better cool those aluminum fins. I finally got the nerve up to put a cooling hole since I'm doing lots of under chassis work. So, I'm ready for a little cooler running transmission now that the real Texas summer has come.

Chief I believe we already have a transmission cooler, an alternative would be to upsize the cooler that we already have or to add another one inline that had a low pressure drop. The cooler that we have appears to be water/oil and air/oil in one unit so adding another inline would be a heck of a lot easier to find unless we can find a comparable offering for the 335i that works. Has anyone had temp issues though? Would be curious to see some data

A second cooler line makes sense to me. The X5 folks must have done something on this front. |

#2 Have any experience with BST (Bmw Standart Tools) and which one is easier to use? Any other user-friendly software you can recommend to look into? #3 Can something as simple as Torque, Car Gauge Pro,Bmwhat or simple phone software that you know of can perform this particular adaptation? PS: I know i dont have "new member" thread yet but I promise my skills and knowledge will be very beneficiary to this community and before I do a welcome post i need to address some of the critical areas on my D first; I bought a car on April 14 and up to now only put 1500km on it, mostly reading forums and gathering parts! |

Just for anyone having a hard time finding the trans pan/filter for the 335D, I picked one up today at Transtar Industries in Hazel Park MI for $118. Genuine ZF part and they even had it on the shelf shockingly.

#1 Rheingold is fairly easy to use, no need for a "tuner education". Sometimes things are bit tricky to find. #2 As you can see from my other post I'm a big fan of EDIABAS which is part of the standard tools. But it's much harder (and more dangerous) to use than Rheingold because sometimes you have to figure out what the correct arguments to a job are. #3 I know Torque can not reset adaption but am unsure of the other tools. |

Chief,
I'll let him provide the link you requested. Several of us have ordered our trans fluids, pans, gaskets, etc from thectsc.com . Klaus is very knowledgable and answers questions but you have to post them rather than calling him. Since I got the aluminum pan, I got the gasket that works with it, fluid, and a drain plug with seal and fill plug seal. Finally, I invested in a decent transfer pump as I will use it on differential and another vehicle. Pump was ~$85. I think I mention it earlier in this thread. EDIT: I had not given the pump info after reading back earlier. It is a Motive Power Fill that I bought from idparts.com since I needed other misc filters too. Link http://www.idparts.com/motive-power-...ro-p-2319.html The little red hook shaped filling tube is perfect to put in fill port while pumping by hand. 6L fit into the pump reservoir fine. Last edited by BB_cuda; 08-07-2015 at 02:13 PM.. Reason: added transfer pump info |

tryingtobebest Mine's still going strong with no problem. The shifts with Redline and Lubegard in the low gears seem more firm than with the OEM fluid, although it has never been the smoothest shifting. It still has the factory programming.
I'm planning another drain and refill this fall - just changing the fluid and not messing with the filter. I am now just short of 61,000 miles.

Do we have a potential break through on the fluid within the torque converter?
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=17_0315
I have an idea. I was hunting for something else in realoem and tripped over this. It would appear that these lines (1 and 2) would both be disconnected. I would presume #1 is pressure coming into cooler and would flow dirty/used ATF and #2 would be return to transmission. I'm reliant on their use of inlet (to cooler) as opposed to inlet to trans. My point is #1 is allowed to flow into a bucket dumping old fluid and #2 is put into a full bucket of clean fluid and allowed to suck back into the trans system. Could this be the trick we have been wanting to purge the torque converter portion of the system (as well as the cooler and these vary lines)? |
