I tested this a little today. It works on the passenger door, trunk, etc, however not on the drivers door. It you tested it this way then try another door possibly.

I've had this car for something like 9 months now and I'm still finding new stuff...!
You can actually program those buttons to do almost anything in iDrive... for instance, my 'preset 1' changes the Nav map from day mode to night mode and back.

What an awesome thread! Totally looking into the coding of your key fob DIY's!

Also feel like I'm going to go sit in my car and go through every single iDrive customization and setting...

Going to be a long night.

Call up the iDrive screen you want programmed, and then press and hold the desired button (1-6). You can also code out standard functionality of the other two buttons (FM/AM & Mode) and have it open for custom shortcuts.

Good idea. I just did this last night because I'd never used the preset buttons anyway. The thing I posted about earlier where you just brush the button to see what it does appears to still work even for non-radio-station functions, so I don't have to remember which one toggles night mode, perspective, traffic etc. Even better, perspective appears to work in night mode (I never used night mode before just because it's so cumbersome to switch while driving) although I remember hearing something about it not working? Maybe it has to do with an update, I got pretty much my whole car updated at the dealer around Thanksgiving of last year because I needed my Sirius and alarm coded in and didn't know anyone local to do it for me.

is it possible to program one of the buttons to the car tyre pressure reset screen? if yes it shows/previews it when we brush the button??

Thanks..

I have an 08 335xi with premium package, and there is a switch in the glove box that prevents the trunk from unlatching. Perfect place for a dead body...or to hide surprises like Christmas presents from kids.

So, today during a long drive I accidentally learned that the buttons (1-6) below the CD player are soft touch (at least with iDrive). If you put your finger over one, it tells you what the station ID is on the iDrive screen. When you press - it switches to the station of course.

Too bad someone posted this 2 months ago :/ I was all excited

not sure if this was mentioned, was frustrating me at first but i realized what the issue was...

for non idrive, steering wheel arrow buttons won't work and traffic info won't be displayed for pandora, spotify etc from the iphone unless you have at least one song synced to your phone in the music library. otherwise it will just say "track not found" or whatever

can anyone confirm this?

Hey man, where is the USB IN the glove box exactly and under? Cant find it. I just installed a multimedia unit for rearview and stuck a ipod video connector in the glove. The USB IN the glove would be awesome!

Here's what I've seen. I use a Y-cable (USB and mini jack on one end, Apple proprietary jack on the other). I usually have an old iPod hooked up to it, as that is my music library. Everything displays properly when the iPod is connected.

If I connect my iPhone 4S to it, everything out of iTunes displays properly, but if I'm using Pandora, sometimes it hangs onto the last track I played out of iTunes. This usually goes away after the car gets restarted the next time.

Display can be wonky, but skipping tracks works on the steering control for mine on Pandora, and I have full control on iTunes.

Hmm not sure if it's worth mentioning since it's pretty obvious if you think about it. For xdrive e9x's the metal oil pan cover under the car is twice as thick as a regular e9x. At least that's what my mechanic told me once we got it up on the lift.

Hi, 320i UK E90 LCi 09,

I have just noticed that when the lights are turned on and I open the boot (trunk) the stop lamp bulbs come on at about half brightness on both sides. The normal rear tail lights are LED these just stay the same, it's just the stop lights which light up which are bulbs.

Can anyone else confirm this or is it some strange problem or something to do with comfort entry.....?

Thanks.

I didn't know that "satellite ready," the term used to describe our cars' radio is equivalent in value to saying I'm ready to win the lottery. I recently learned that the radio in every car is as "satellite ready" as our are.

1. great tip on locking the doors while still open, except for the driver side
2. never knew you could open the trunk without the FOB or unlocking from the inside!

after looking for the hiding USB drive or plug in the glove box, this is all i found? what is this plug used for?

and what is the empty key used for? can i somehow replace the inside of the FOB? thanks in advance

The plug in the Glove box is for your BMW flashlight. I use mine all the time.

I see. yeah its a cool little flaslight.

In regards to the empty key, this is for valet purposes. This way you only provide them with key fob and not the key for glove compartment or trunk.
