Urgent! Engine Malfunction
So I dropped off my gf at school this morning and on my way back i get a pretty scary error code. I notice also that my engine is acting really weird. i can't really hear my intake, the engine is weak, the exhaust note sounds different. it sounds deeper and crackles more. also the car is making a weird noise, i don't know how to explain it. it kinda sounds like somethings loose. anyway, are there any good bmw shops in San Diego that can tell me what the problem is? i don't want to take it to bmw because I have a feeling its because of one of my mods. i tried turning it on and off, i tried setting it to map 0, i checked my DCI, they seem to be fine. If anyone can either help me with the problem or recommend a shop in San Diego, that would be great.

use the jb4 to scan the car for codes. i'd imagine its' the hpfp, but we'd all be guessing really at this point. take it to the dealer, but remove the tune and intakes. downpipes are prob alright to leave in, it's a PITA to remove/re-install those.

Find the instructions to go into the command center on the JB4. The stock vehicle doesn't give you codes, but the JB4 reads them and displays them via the command center on the instrument cluster.

I don't think the 2ABC code has anything to do with the HPFP, that's usually a tune related code. OP, when did you install your DCI? The sensor that is usually at fault for that code is on the charge pipe; have you accidentally hit it? Did you install your tune recently?

Someone prior had the same exact error codes as you did and it was their DME that was fried.
Here is the link to that thread http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=579508 |

Could be the DME, but it would be worth checking the charge pipe and the sensor that is on it. If they check out, look at the fuse assigned to it and see if it is blown. (Longshot, but worth a look.) I'm betting if the DME isn't the issue, the sensor on the charge pipe is the culprit.

i see. i think so too, because 1. LTBMW is the one who installed my jb4 and 2. its been for the most part fine for the passed 2-3 months its been on there. and again everyone i apologize for my stupidity but what exactly is a DME? and how would i check the charge pipe?

so i was sitting at my computer contemplating something weird that happened when i was reading my codes. i read them and re-read them like 2-3 times but after that, when i would try to read them, it would say i had no codes. i thought it was weird but thought nothing of it because i was anxious to get back here with my results. so after thinking about it i decided i would go down to my car and start it up (something i should have done in the first place). Lo and behold i started my car and no error message. i drove it around the parking lot, and it sounded normal. so i went on a drive just to be sure. i drove it for a good 10 minutes and even rode it really hard. everything is good as new. when i came back, i read the codes and there were still no codes. however i made an appointment with euro auto stop prior. do you think i should still go over and make sure nothings wrong? i mean i rode it hard and everything was fine. i would for sure go if i didn't have a midterm tomorrow. but like I'm gonna get there and theres no codes and nothing is wrong. he wants to charge me a $50 diagnosis. should i get the charge pipe looked at anyway?

$50 for a look-over and diagnosis is cheap. Always best to have an experienced mechanic check the car out every now and then anyway to catch issues before they become problems.
