Moving to Portugal this spring, not sure if i have to change anything on the car

Simple answer: not much. You may need to switch off your amber parking lights (through coding); they need to be white in Europe. Activate your rear fog lights (read other threads on this forum; I also did a DIY for activating mine). Do some search on the forum! Also, read on the Portuguese government websites about importing cars from the US, and you should be all set.

its tougher when you go as a civ.... make sure you meet the euro standard... i believe it might be just taillights that is the hardest because you must swap them for euro spec ones and add rear fogs...

the only thing that you need to do is pay a very high tax to get the Portuguese license plate. for a 335i you will pay 14.000€ or in dolars 19.400$.

This is true, but when you are moving from other country, as OP, you do not have to pay this tax. You just need to prove you lived in another country for, at least, the last 12 months.

Yes, i think you are right, but in this case you canot sell the car for some years, think....
