Just from driving, the bump I felt did not even seem like it could cause this damage. Alloy wheel repair said its an easy fix, 50 bucks but I'm tired of 18s so I will sell the set and let the next person fix it. If not I will repair and use next summer. Really sucks because I had them on the car for 3 months I think.

if you got them from **********s during the black friday sale there is more to this story... i did and fought with **********s with no positive results. They "marketed" them as rotary forged csl wheels at the time, but pictures were still of sportline wheels so i knew what i was getting. a month or two following my purchase i saw a post on a thread that indicated that batch that was on sale for black friday was on sale because they were from a "bad batch" from sportline. the bad batch according to them was only slightly off in the width of the wheel spokes (off by 1 mm according to them)...

Man that sucks, I'm not sure if I purchased then during that time but of course I am disappointed. I can't prove that they knowingly did anything underhanded but from my experience with these things I'm pretty much screwed. They say rotary forged but for going over a elevated man hole cover I'm schocked at the damage. I don't think I will be buying anything else from there but I will still say that Alan was a grate guy and helpful. I guess it's my own fault to think that in one of the most exspensive states to live in that they would truly make use of money and fix the roads. Thankyou for the info, hopefully no one else will have the same experience...

If these guys did sell wheels without informing the purchasing party that there was a quality issue that could possibility affect the integrity, not only is this underhanded but it's illegal In most states. However, proving this is much harder, in the event **********s did knowingly sell this bad batch I'm sure they have no intention in owning up to it.

I certainly didn't mean to hijack the thread, and impact possibility of sale. I'm sorry if I did that...
In any case, I have a set of those same rims (18's) and so far am very happy. I was just a bit hyper-aware of any issues with them, since they were very reasonably priced, and very lightweight. I've got something like 9,000 miles on mine and it's all bliss, and I've hit my share of potholes. I did scratch up one wheel about 20 minutes after having them mounted (tagged a curb, they are wider than my old rims). That was because of the loose nut behind the wheel, though. |
