4D Carbon Fiber Vinyl
Anyone use this "4D" carbon fiber vinyl stuff? Ive heard good things in terms of it looking more realistic thathan the 3m stuff. There are some ebay sellers selling what they are calling 4D, but I don't know if it's any good. It's got a glossy finish instead of matte.
Anyone tried this stuff?

Unless I'm mistaken, they don't make a "4D" CF so it must have been their Di-noc or 1080 carbon fiber.

3M doesn't make 4D, it's currently mostly made by Chinese vendors and sold on eBay. I think the most realistic one is made by Ikon, a forum member posted here and it looks great in his pics. I've used 4D from eBay and it is more realistic than regular CF vinyl, but not quite as good as the real thing. It's got more gloss which helps, but the printed weave isn't as good as say 3M 1080 or Hexis which have the texture. Real CF of course has the texture and then the resin over.

I got the 4D from Ikonwraps, but appears they don't sell it anymore.
Check out ebay...sometimes it goes by 5D. It's a no name brand but looks pretty good. Similar to the Ikonwraps stuff but half the price. |

They're up to 5D now? When will it end...
I see it's pretty cheap on eBay, but I would prefer some real world experience since a good quality wrap will make wrapping the interior way easier. I leaning more towards 1080 just because it's pretty easy to use.

I can also confirm that the Ikon 4D CF glossy vinyl was easily the most realistic CF vinyl I've seen to date. It blows 1080/Di-noc out of the water in terms of appearance. But, it also appears that Ikon isn't offering it anymore.

Now that I think about it, I did buy some "4D Carbon Fiber" vinyl from metro-restyling, but it just looked like 1080/Di-noc and didn't adhere very well.

I've had some from Ebay. Much more difficult to work with than 3m 1080.

Gonna chime in because I got my hands on some of this 4D stuff today. It has a very high gloss and texture to it. At first glance it looks awesome but once you get a good look at it, it looks very fake.

How difficult is it to apply compared to 1080?

As far as looks, I feel like the 1080 looks very dull. This stuff is the complete opposite and looks too shiny. I'd still probably choose 3M though

Wrapped mine two days ago with 5d carbon. It looks so fake. Also its harder to wrap. PIA to get the air bubbles out. This vinyl will trap air bubbles. Won't go away like other wraps. You have to get air bubble out or it will stay there forever.
Looks really good on door trims(e92) but it looks so horrible on center shifter trim. Plan to rewrap just center shifter trim with brushed aluminum in couple months. Wrapped all trims with 5d carbon except for my front dash(black brushed aluminum) Brushed aluminum > 5d Carbon |
