Announcing Street Names

Does anyone know if the new version of iDrive includes announcing of actual street names? I have the 2008 version and it does not which is extremely annoying. For the price it should defenitely be doing this. Thoughts?

The 2009 Idrive does NOT have text to speech.

Which is probably a good thing or you would see threads with "my idrive does not say the street name properly" all over the place

Garage List
Frankly I could care less whether it announced the street name. I can read it on the arrow display. What is more of an irritation (to me) is the 2009 system will tell me to turn onto the "A SIX HUNDRED FIFTY EIGHT" whereas the 2006 would say "turn left onto A SIX FIVE EIGHT". Maybe I've been over here too long.

^ My Nuvi 360 does the same thing depending on which TTS voice I choose. One voice will say "Take ramp on right to highway four oh one east" While another voice will say "Take ramp on right to highway four hundred and one east"

Does the '09 Nav tell you which side of the road a destination is?

I find it amazing that my '08 3-series Nav can't do that while an '04 X5's Nav has no problem with it. Wouldn't be a prob unless we had those highway cement dividers around here...

i dont understand how this is possible. How can any Nav software worth a dime not provide street names. My wifes $99 Garmin does it but my $2200 BMW system doesnt.

Yes. I-Drive 09 tells you if destination is on the left or the right.

That capacity is not there on most in-dash OEM systems. My last car has the much vaunted Acura system, and it did not have TTS.

Personally, I don't really care. I programmed a preset to split screen and put "Arrow" in the left screen. I can always just look at the screen to see what specific street I need to turn on.

I'm not dismissing your disappointment with this lack of features, but it is a non-issue for many of us.
