Thats why it takes so long to load new s/w to the CCC. It runs at 115kbps serial.

If you open up the CCC, there should be a "boot loader" jumper of some kind. If the flash becomes corrupt due to update failure, you should be able to cold boot the system in some way. The dealers cant do this, thats why they send it back to the factory if upload failed - like in my case. They then replace the CCC.

The BMW agent who repairs all ECU's and radio units does not seem to be working on CCC's.

I am sure if there were someone on the forum with a CE Automotive license, they would be able to find some kind of ISP/JTAG interface on the board and figure out what CE services are referenced in the registry.

Anybody up to the challenge?

You don't need a "boot loader" jumper of some kind for soft reboot.
Simply press both eject+radioON buttons.

Pressing ON & EJECT does a reboot sure. It certainly looks like it is reading from the DVD before proceeding with startup. It is almost as if it looking for something on the DVD before loading the BMW application software.

Does anyone know if there is a way to get to MS Automotive by putting a DVD with some specific files in the drive when rebooting?

Wouldn´t it have to be running something from Microsoft in order to find that there?

Is it not running Windows CE / Automotive?

What would happen if I insert a DVD with a little "do nothing" endless loop in the boot sector?

This is just an idea haven’t really had a chance to mess with it yet. But if rip nav disk to a computer and check out the files there should be some picture files. Once you have determined what picture files are what it would just be a matter of replacing those files with the images you want and then reburning the nav disk. Theoretically this should work.
