11 rules of Life

Since we have alot of younger people on the board I thought it would be nice to share a list of things high school and college won't teach you. Our current "feel-good", politically-correct school systems have created a full generation of kids with no concept of reality and set them up for failure in the real world. Enjoy and learn from it.

RULE 1
Life is not fair; get used to it.

RULE 2
The world won’t care about your self esteem. The world will expect you to accomplish something BEFORE you feel good about yourself.

RULE 3
You will NOT make 40 thousand dollars a year right out of high school and you won’t be a vice president with a company credit card, until you earn both.

RULE 4
If you think your teacher is tough, wait until you get a boss. He doesn’t have tenure.

RULE 5
Flipping burgers is not beneath your dignity. Your grandparents had a different word for burger flipping; they called it opportunity.

RULE 6
If you mess up, it’s not your parents’ fault, so don’t whine about your mistakes, learn from them.

RULE 7
Before you were born, your parents weren’t as boring as they are now. They got that way from paying your bills, cleaning your clothes, and listening to you talk about how cool you are. So before you save the rainforest from the parasites of your parents’ generation, try “delousing” the closet in your own room.

RULE 8
Your school may have done away with winners and losers, but life has not. In some schools they have abolished failing grades; they’ll give you as many times as you want to get the right answer. This doesn’t bear the slightest resemblance to ANYTHING in real life.

RULE 9
Life is not divided into semesters. You don’t get summers off and very few employers are interested in helping you find yourself. Do that on your own time.

RULE 10
Television is NOT real life. In real life, people actually have to leave the coffee shop and go to jobs.

RULE 11
Be nice to nerds. Chances are you’ll end up working for one.

Good post..

I think rule #3 could use some updating though.. Most kids these days acquire a cell phone as a fetus.

My mom said the same thing when I showed it to her. She's been a teacher for years and she gets a little more nauseated by the nonsense every passing year.

Nope, I'm an internal auditor and compliance officer. I've got 3 college degrees (one of which I just finished) so I've just spent way too much time with teachers and the current "future" of our society.

I've seen this list passed around as a speech Bill Gates supposedly gave at some highschool. Dunno how much truth there is in that, but nonetheless it's a good lesson

I think all #3 is trying to say is that you must work hard to reap the benefits- they don't just fall in your lap (normally).

It's not true... you can look it up on Snopes, or just go by common sense. Although he was and is a great businessman who worked hard to get where he is, Gates was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

For an average person to make $40K out of high school in Montreal would be unusual.

I dont agreed with #3 either. If I read it correctly, it says that you should not expect to make 40k a year after high school grad but you should be making that much as a college grad. Well, let me just say I was making 21K a year with a cullige digrii us my first jub

I didn't think to look it up on Snopes but thanks. Common sense won though
