VTT N55 DBB Stage 2 update

Good news, we have another batch of DBB Stage 2 upgrades for the N55 back in house, ready for assembly, shipping. This is the only true upgrade available for the N55 at this moment, with proven power potential, and 1/4 mile potential. A stage 1 upgrade is going to get you a little bump in power at the top of the rev band, this turbo transforms your N55 and you pick up massive amounts of power through out the rev band, not just near redline. If you are interested or have any questions please email us directly at sales@vargasturbo.com. Thanks!

We removed the sale portion of this post and it has been moved, if you ware interested in pricing, that is where it is: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=994129

Well if that isn't misleading... Stage 1 had huge gains from 4500+ on 91 oct. The stage 2 is obviously the biggest bolton upgrade available but to say the stage 1 gives a little more power on the very top is not true. At least I don't call 45whp a little more. I am not discounting the VTT stage 2 at all, it looks to be a good turbo and there are going to be more numbers out for it soon which I am excited to see as they should be the first independent numbers out for it.

Is the VT stage 2 compatible with RHD cars?
And what sort of gains are expected?

Terry @ BMS got 468whp out of one. Should have more numbers on one pretty soon. I think he said around 2 weeks. This will be a fully independent evaluation.

There is no specific gain on this turbo upgrade for the money. Maker claims 475-500 hp speculation, while tuner got around 470 hp, that is probably with race gas + meth, or something similar (which VERY FEW people might run on daily basis). There are not many hard numbers of how much actual power gain is on 91 or 93 gas.

People run meth and or e85 all the time .. I run e85 occasionally and 100oct most of the time.. and tuner made 477 and i remember seeing the link for it but I dont remember where.. you think 90% of n54 people run straight 91-93 oct? Alot of them use e85

Hey guys! Sorry for being absent, crazy crazy week, upgrading the shop with lots of new equipment, all our turbo parts for N54's and N55's all arrived at the same time. Trying to get it all done and stay on the forums is tough. To answer a few questions, yes it will fit all RHD N55's. Our stage 1 is close to being ready to ship, prob about 3 more weeks, Stage 2 JB is taking a little longer as we have to have custom turbine and compressor wheels made. As far as power, I will post graphs, tomorrow, as I am on my phone, but Terry made 477WHP, and 509WTQ on pump / E85 mixture and meth. What most people run these days, no race gas. Also the stage 1 starts showing increases at 4500 RPM, but they are 5-10WHP until get higher in the rev band, you see that 40-50WHP increase for about 1000 RPM's. This informatiom is based on the graphs Terrry posted during his testing. Is a stage 1 turbo an upgrade, it sure is, that is why we are offering one, but it is not comparable to this upgrade, which makes much more power through out the rev band, and supports much more power. We appreciate all the posts, and I will get those graphs up tomorrow as well as a log showing spool time for the DBB stage 2. Thanks!

Here are the graphs I promised.

The first is Terry's testing of a Stage 1 upgrade.

From 3500RPM-4500RPM you actually have less power and TQ than stock
Then from 4500-5500 you are seeing gains of about 10-15WHP your but dyno is not sensitive enough to even feel 10WHP, then from 5500-6800 you have gains from 15-45WHP. That is a 1300RPM window of more than 15WHP gained. There are people out there saying a stage 1 has transformed their car. In reality you are gaining power for 1300RPM at the end of the rev band, not exactly a transformation.

Next graph is our VTT DBB Stage 2 Vs Stock

First off you lose a little bit of power and TQ down VERY low as the bigger turbo takes slightly longer to spool, but by around 3600RPM our turbo just explodes away from the stock unit in WHP and WTQ, by 4000RPM you have already gained 30WHP, and 40WTQ over stock, by 5000RPM you have gained 75WHP and 80WTQ, by 5500RPM you are at the 100WHP and 110WTQ mark for gains, at 6000RPM you are making 120WHP and 105WTQ, it holds these gains to redline. Now that is power you can feel and comes on from 3500 and holds all the way to redline, this is transformation of your vehicle.

The last graph is just the 477WHP pull.

I just wanted to get these up as I had promised to do so. We have sold 3 of our 6 remaining DBB Stage 2's if anyone is interested I would get on it sooner than later, these never last long.

Edit:

Someone asked if we could post a graph of the V2 stage 1 for comparison also. So here it is as well.

This is the info we were given, which also shows a 45WHP delta gain over stock, we are not sure what gives with that Dyno graph but it looks like there were some pretty extreme throttle closures or something going on with the tune, but it shows what we thought it would show, you stay relatively close to stock down low and pick up between 20-45WHP up top, not much difference over the the other graph except its not as smooth.

91 pump
map 2
went from 297whp to 342whp (at same boost levels)

297whp was 72 degree ambient
342whp was 88 degree ambient

Why are you comparing two complete different products at two different prices? Can you provide a dyno graph on just 91 or 93 oct on stage 2?

Very simplly showing the differences in gains you can expect between the two, most people want to be armed with this information when making a decision on which upgrade to choose. It has been said many times now, if you want to run pump fuel only (91 or 93) it is not worth getting a turbo upgrade, the gains you will see are minimal as you will not have the octane to run the boost and timing required to make power. On 91 only you most likely cannot even max out the stock turbo.

There have also been changes to that Stage 1 unit, so you are comparing an obsolete part to a current part. There have also been dynos showing 40+ whp gains for the current stage 1. I don't think you realize how many people you drive away from your business because of your ethics or lack thereof. Your main 3 competitors all handle themselves very well in public.

We appreciate your opinion, but no we are not comparing an obsolete part, they still offer this version, and the graph and description above both show and describe 40+ WHP gains, they just are over a very narrow RPM range, this is a product of the small stock turbine wheel and no amount of changes to a stage 1 upgrade is going to change this. I am going to assume you did not read the post as you are just restating what the post shows, yes it make 40+WHP, it actually shows about 45+ peak WHP over the rev band we state. We tell things the way they are with no BS, some people find this hard to deal with, as they like being told exactly what they want to hear, or they want to believe things other vendors say that just plain aren't true. If this drives them away, well that is something we are ok with, as we always like to be up front and clear. Cheers
