How long does a warranty claim stay open for?

I was burning oil back in April this year... I was advised that I need to bring the car back in as soon as it requests oil...
But... That they would only keep the claim open until end of May.
I renewed my warranty in May...
I have burned 1 liter in 2500 miles.
I don't want to pay excess as I think they should honor the consumption test we started.

Has anyone else ever been in a similar situation?

Thanks

Thats standard. Some cars burn much more than that.

I'm not sure what the oil usage is for your car, but many cars are allowed to use a litre of oil every 1000 miles and are deemed normal.

Surely a phone call is all that is needed. You say you have covered 2,500 miles and used a litre of oil, that would complete the test, put the figure on record.

Not sure what you expect, as you'll almost certainly get quoted "the consumption is well within BMW tolerances". There is no actual consumption for a given engine, just a 'litre per xxxx miles' figure, before BMW will want to investigate further.

BTW, what engine do you run?

Seems fair considering your warranty was going to expire at the end of May.

As said, using a litre per 2500 miles of oil sounds very normal to me.

I've hardly had a car that has used any oil.

However the handbook will cover the manufacturer to say at a litre per 2500 miles, that is within an acceptable allowance.

I would be scared if my car used 1 litre per 2500 miles, but it is hard to argue as all manufacturers that I've seen say it can be worse.

To be more specific its not the mileage that bothers me its the fact that it has a bizarre problem of burning oil under load.

Before it went in... Full compliment of passengers driving 70mph on a motorway for 100 miles would mean carrying a litre! Yes that is 100 miles and not a typo.

Now?? Full compliment of passengers... Drove 100 miles and burned two notches... Probably half a litre or less but hey it shouldn't be happening.

Will call them up tomorrow and see what comes of it...

I even had to pay for the oil as they said its a 'consumable' when we started the consumption test!

I'm running the N52B25 stock
