Marcs335

Hi Guys,
On Saturday 7th April 2012 I picked up my 2008 Sparkling Graphite 335I BMW. I just stepped out of a 07 Golf GTI (completely modified both performance pushing 200KW ATW + looks). I had spent some time on the VW forums and look to do the same for my journey with this car.
I had never really look at 3 series as an option for a new car. I was about to get back in to the 4WD's looking at X5's, Range Rover Sport, Q7. However, I decided that at my age with no kids - Plenty of time to buy a coupe.
Test drove the 335 and I was impressed.

So here it starts.

Looks: 15% Tints. - Will be removing the wheels this Sunday 15/4/12 to have them powder coated gloss black
LUX Angel eyes - 7/06/12
Gloss black carbon fibre grille - 7/06/12
Gloss black carbon fibre 335 badge - 7/6/12

Performance: JB4 - Thanks to Stuart BMR AUTOWERKES 7/6/12
K&N Airfilter 7/6/12

Interior: Virgin at the moment. I have made some enquiries about having the brush aluminium dipped - Just don't know what in.

Below is a pic of my VW.

And here is the BMW

After some love:

In the suburbs sporting M3 lip spoiler wrapped in Carbon:

Car looks great! Welcome!

Where are you getting the wheels powdercoated? Assuming the car will be off the road for a little while then?

Tune wise, you can't go wrong with:
- JB4
- Procede
- Cobb

Peak will probably be doing a custom flash tune which doesn't really offer much in the way of flexibility and will likely be more expensive than the ones listed above.

Hi Mate,

A mate of mine that has looked after our past few race cars with powdercoating will be doing them. Taking the rims and tyres off tomorrow. Should have them back on the car before Thursday.

In regards to tunes - I really havent looked in to it that much.
Do you supply tunes etc?

Thanks.
Marc.

Hey mate, welcome and good looking car!!! Have to say sparkling graphite's grown on me (Joe, you're probably grinning now). The tint looks good too - a shame about the back but it's a common issue with the dot matrix bit. Once your wheels are powdercoated, its gonna look really stealthy!

Bmroxm5 is the man to speak to for getting in tunes, amongst other things Top bloke and very helpful!

Welcome mate! Car looks great, and good too see you got Msport as well. Tune wise, many many people run JBs or Procedes, and as mentioned a few people are starting to pick up on Cobb in Australia. You can't really go wrong with any of those tunes, but there are other features/maps/additional support things to consider. Peter and Stuart (bmroxm5) will most certainly be able to help you out on your mods.

Ok, Wheels came off yesterday and dropped off for powder coating this morning.
Though, Whilst the car is sitting in my garage - I quickly became frustrated with the look of the brakes.

So I painted the hub.

Will do the 1st coat on the calipers tonight...

Im using caliper paints etc specifically for brakes. Supercheap stocks them.

Gloss black for the hubs (to match rims)
Chilli Red(I think thats what its called) - For the calipers.

I was thinking of going yellow calipers but I'm hesitant to do it - Not 100% sold on the look of them. I will stick with red for a while and see how I like that.

for the hubs is that spray or brush (looks rather shiny from the photo, but i suspect you'd get paint everywhere with spray.

Plus did you do anything for the rust first?

Hi,

All spray - No brush.
To avoid overspray etc just have rags, newspaper and masking tape handy.
Also a bottle of thinners to remove any excess off the disc.
I would also heavily recommend a fan blowing away from the car to ensure you dont have overspray rest on the paintwork.

To prep the brakes you will need a BIG tin of wax and grease remover, a wire brush and a very light sand paper - The more time you spend sanding and wax/grease remover the better.

Let it dry - Start painting. I only gave the hubs 2 coats.
I will be giving the calipers 3-4 coats as the 1st inevitably looks dirty as it seeps in.
YES - I could have taken brakes off and had them powder coated but I honestly couldnt be f*^ked

Sounds like you put a fair bit of effort in to me. Once I read the cleaning up bit I lost interest, mine are staying as they are, i might use the dirty excuse to get new brakes

HAHA - I knew someone was gonna pick up on that.
All in all though it literally took me 10-15mins tops to prep all brakes. Spraying took me about 2 mins per hub.

Tight ass version of a brake upgrade. haha.

Maybe ill go home and drill some holes...

Looks awesome!

My phone ran out of batt last night, apologies for not calling you back. I'll send you a PM/Email summarising what we discussed

PS if you need some of those little 'M' stickers for the wheels I can hook you up with genuine ones.

HAHA - I was waiting for it...
I'm really not a fan of a rugh ride - Plus its a task taking it in and out of the driveway as it is. I need that switch like on the new lamborghini to pick the front up when going in and out of a driveway. lol
