Prime standard two day shipping. I didn't check what's in the car now, but I'm sure the 6d11's will be fine.

Did the plug change today. Took me just over an over as I took my time. Didn't have to remove strut brace as I used a medium length ratchet extension. The plugs that came out were a mix of BMW and NGK different plugs, 3 of each! I mean, who does that?
Anyway, I put in the NGK 6D11's. I solved a cylinder 5 misfire issue it was having when accelerating hard. Car pulls like a champ now!! No misfire. Smooth as silk. Love it. Saved a bunch of money doing it myself too!!! Brilliant!

It's done. The mechanic installed the Bosch plugs. The car is running good. Didn't have chance to see the OEM plugs that were in the car because they didn't save them for me.

I have an '06 325i build date 3/06. I'm getting a misfire at low rpm on cylinder 5, no error code. The only way I figured it was 5 was through INPA,under engine/rough I saw cylider 5 go into the red when the car started shaking.
So I've decided to change that coil and while I'm there change the plugs. The car has 77k miles on it. I ended up ordering NGK PLZFR6A11S and 12137548553 (coil). My head is spinning, can anyone confirm these are correct for my build date? I plan on tackling the DIY this weekend. Thanks |

Sorry to quote my own post, but what coils go with NGK 6D11 plugs? There are a few listed on RealOEM. I'm not sure which one to order.
Can someone point me in the right direction please. Thanks.

I used Bosch coils 12137594936 on my 2006 330i. Please notice my plugs are Bosch. But, I don't think that makes a difference when you order the coils.

PLEAS HELP
Hey guys,
Thank you for your valuable posts I am going to change the Spark plug of my car its a 2008 328i and I think it should have a N52 engines, I am really confused I saw some spark plug socket for N54 and N55 (http://www.burgertuning.com/N54_BMW_...t_adapter.html) but it seems that N52 engines don't need a special spark plug socket and a normal one will be work, Is there any one can confirm me? Now I want to order a normal socket 6Point 3/8 in Drive 5/8 in Spark Plug Sockets (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Allen-1169...ckets/19867330) Would you please let me know does it work or not? Thanksss |

Well, this thread has left me a lot more confused than I was when I came in...
I have a 2005 build '06 325i. Any real difference between NGK PLZFR6A11S and Bosch FR7NPP332? Is there a reason why the latter appears to be cheaper? The RealOEM page for my car also says these were "ENDED" in 2009.

Thanks for the easy DIY! Took around 45 minutes to do. I ordered this tool from Amazon which worked wonderfully. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0014ZVSVK/
Went with NGK ILZFR6D11 on my 2006 330i. These replaced BMW Genuine Bosch FR7NPP332 plugs. I went ahead and moved the passenger strut brace out of the way to access 5 and 6 as I didn't want to mess any threads up. Old plugs below. I assume these are stock from the factory. Car is at 88k miles. Photo of coils my car uses below. Hopefully it's legible. Last edited by spencers; 04-05-2014 at 04:04 PM.. |

Oreilly has the Bosch variant for $6.29/ea. Don't know why they're so cheap, but I think I'm going to give them a shot.
What I'm going to follow: 23nm +/- 2 torque (or hand tight + 90 degrees) No anti-seize I have 101k miles on my 325i; should be interesting to see what the originals look like. I had a coil fail around 40k miles ago, but really no other issues - though I wouldn't be surprised if my idle feels nicer after the swap.

Changed 'em today. Took me way longer than it should but everything seems fine. The originals were actually Bosch. I measured the gap on the new ones, it was around .46, figured that'd probably be fine. My wrench had inch-pound torque measurements and I went with 200.
Some advice: -If your 5/8 socket is anything like mine, it'll stay inside with the spark plug when you try to pull out the extension. Do yourself a favor and get something like this, or at least a locking extension. Makes life much easier. -Some have said they've managed to get the plug from cylinder #5 out by using a shorter extension. That may be, but I was utterly paranoid about cross-threading and wanted to make sure I had a perfect angle when screwing the plugs in by hand at first. The only special tool you really need to remove the brace is an E14 Torx socket (for the center screw up near the windshield wipers, you technically need an E20, but I managed to make due with a 9/16[IIRC] hex). Instead of buying an extra extension, do yourself a favor and get the E14 torx socket; makes life a lot easier when you're trying to take the coils out as well.

used a regular 5/8 spark plug socket and worked just fine. also didn't have a problem with the strut bar being in the way. Last edited by Efini; 05-09-2014 at 11:12 PM.. |

Somewhat off-topic, but I just bought my wife an '06 530xiT and I guess I'll be doing this job again in the next week or two. FR7NPP332 is still cheap at O'Reilly and I like how my car is doing right now, so that's probably what I'm going to go with again. Might actually be easier in an E61; I imagine there's a little more room to maneuver around the strut brace.

Been getting a cylinder 6 misfire code for the past month. I clear the code and it comes back a week later.
My car is at 46k miles, so I guess its time. Going to change sparks/coils this weekend. Pray for me. Cobb has a YouTube video explaining how to change them. Very detailed too. Side note. I bought the car used and the previous owner bought the extended maintenance. The spark plugs are supposed to be included as part of BMW extended maintenance and changed at 45k. I went there at 43k for an oil change. The bastards at the dealer wont change anything unless the car is complaining about it. |

I have a n52b25, build date 03/07, just rolled over to 70 000km. Car was making a pinging sound under acceleration and I've had a misfire code thrown a few times, showing signs of bad plugs. So I removed the r5 ngk's that came from factory and replaced them with LFR6AIX-11 ngk's. The code cross references with the oem ngk and Bosch, but these were $9.65 vs $16CAD each. Installed them and the car feels noticeably better!
