Showing the nav panel all the time - duh
Maybe I'm just dumb but I didn't immediately realise you can display the map on the right at the same time as having the entertainment or other screens on the left. I often use my iPod (and phone) and wondered why the right panel didn't display album covers or was blank, but displaying the map is much better. Just scroll the controller to the right in the entertainment screen to highlight the border and click for options. It remembers the display on start up too. Just thought I'd post in case there are other numbskulls like me out there!

Yeah, if someone knows how to set a default layout for the screen so that it goes back there on startup that would be great. I don't mind having to click the Accept at startup but it's irritating that you then go the menu screen. It should go to either a settable default screen or where it was when you shut down last time.

It's not possible but you can use the shortcuts to return to the last position in any of the four cardinal directions.

What I meant was that if you set the nav view on the righthand panel in, say, entertainment, then selecting the entertainment window on the next start up brings up the nav too. I agree that it would be nice to have iDrive just restart from the view it was shut down on.

What I find annoying is that you can't have a different RHD window function per compass direction. E.g. on entertainment I want my 3d map in the small screen, and on nav I'd like a concise view of whats playing on the entertainment side (which could be replaced by turn instructions as you approach a junction). Was really surprised it didn't do this.
I think idrive was designed by programmers, not human interface designers. |

The directions will pop up in the Assistance window when you approach an intersection (replacing the trip computer for example, temporarily). Since less information is required for this, it makes sense that it is in the smaller window. But for those who would prefer it in the main window, you are right, there is no real good reason it could not be coded thusly.
