proper gun control cannot be implemented now simply because there are already millions in the market. what can be done and should be done is proper education and parenting. The notion that carrying guns is ok, that solving a problem with a gun is ok, that you have the right to carry a firearm is morally ok eventhough its in the constitution, must be lessened in the peoples mind. most importand role is that of the family then school and the social media.
about this incident, i dont think that if someone trained was there would have made much of a difference, there was smoke, people running, the guy was in a full bulletproof suit, even had a neck protector.

The only thing worse than one gunman, is two. Thinking more guns would've improved the scenario is Hollywood movie fantasy.

Why does anyone who is not active duty military on the battlefield need an assault rifle? Or clips that hold 30 rounds or more? I don't want to ban all guns from private sale, just assault type weapons.

It would be best to go back to the types of weapons when the second amendment was written! Then there would be no theater mass killings.

I think more police officers should be present more often at events such as this, where a lot of people are in one area (especially a midnight showing); instead of being camped up on the highway pulling people over for doing 74 in a 65.

^^^ After the fact that sounds good but, honestly we don't need to encourage more of a police state than we already have. I personally think cops everywhere gives off a feeling of a less secure, less free state. Plus, the cops will be preoccupied with trvial crap like loud music, skateboarding, and loitering. SMH

...England and Wales are also placed towards the very top of the international crime league table for car offences, burglary, sex and violent assaults.

The poor comparison with other nations - it shares the overall worst crime rate with Australia - represents an embarrassing blow to Labour's law-and-order credentials in the run-up to the general election.

Some 40,000 people from 17 industrialised countries, including the US, Portugal, France and Poland, were asked whether they had been crime victims as part of the International Crime Victims Survey, which the Home Office help draw up with the Dutch ministry of justice. This system of questioning - similar to that used in the British Crime Survey - is considered more accurate than offences recorded by the police.

In most categories of crime, England and Wales compete with Australia for the top spot. Switzerland, Japan and Northern Ireland are consistently among the most crime-free.

England and Wales also had the highest number of crimes categorised as "very serious" - 18 per 100 inhabitants. Offences involving robbery, sexual and physical assault were highest in Australia, followed by England and Wales. Scotland was fourth.

Can someone make a defense for the availability of the semi-automatics? And while I support gun rights, this 2nd amendment fallback is a crock of shit. Wasn't it adopted when there was no national military? Forming a militia today is actually illegal.

Why is it that the same people that want to ban guns are also the same people that want to decriminalize drug use?

BTW, I support the decriminalization of drug use and the legal possession of drugs...among other civil liberties.

The kid that shot that Senator was wielding two Glocks with 33 round mag extensions. There isn't a gray area with weapons. You can't outlaw one type and expect it to make drastic changes, people will adapt.

Eh, I know a lot of people that prefer to go boar hunting with an ak-47. Might sound ridiculous, but the guns are super reliable, accurate, and powerful enough to be sure the boar goes down. This isn't to say though, that a 30/06 couldn't get the job done just the same. However, when a boar is charging you and he's hard to see through the brush, it is helpful to know that if the first shot misses you don't have to do anything but bring it back in your sights and squeeze the trigger.

I see what you are saying though, and in most cases the choice of weapons available are ridiculous for any practical need. Maybe magazine size should be limited. California already does this, and limits larger caliber firearms to 10rounds. I can't think of any practical need for more than 10 rounds.

This thread gave me an itchy trigger finger, just left the gun range =]

Freedom of speech was before the interwebz. Maybe we should ban that too. Opinions are spread on the internet and taken for fact. It is polluting minds and causing violence.

I am all for guns.

the only thing stopping these mass killings are a well armed citizenry...government can't protect us

Well put. If assault rifles are not available, a person with homicidal tendencies will find a way to kill. I'm sure this guy would have used a bomb or something along those line if no firearms were available. Assault rifles are used in very few gun related crimes according to FBI statistics. I have hunted with an ar-15. It's light and extremely accurate. So there are uses for the weapons outside of the military.

Don't you think that's a bit loaded ( no pun intended). How about throwing in an atomic bomb to thicken the plot.

So was Robin Hood, but he didn't hurt anyone. That's just as loaded as what you just quoted.
