New tires, vibration while driving?

I have a 335xi lowered on kwv1.

I also have oem bmw style 287 wheels, off an e92. These are not stock for the xi, and are staggered 8/8.5 wheels.

The new tires on the car are 225/40/18 255/35/18.

I first noticed the vibration after leaving the tire shop. I went back and they balanced my tires... 2 were over 1g off, on a new install!!

The vibration is less, but still present. Did I get the right tire sizes for being an xi? I only ask this because the spacers I have are 12mm and they are a much tighter fit than the stock tires, as well as this vibration issue I cant seem to shake after the new tires.

which tires? I've had quite a bit of trouble with Continentals. Nice tires as far as grip etc but they don't seem to get it right. Flat spotting every morning, could never get rid of vibes at hwy speeds either. Got some Conti snows on my 335 when I got it and these also flat spot and vibe on the hwy. Its not just me either. My buddy bought a set of DWS for his 135i couple years back. Same problems.

I'd say tires are the issue most likely not the size. Unless the installer doesn't know or doesn't have the equipment to do proper road force balancing.

I wasnt sure what the awd car would act like when the wrong size tires were put on.

I did get the conti DWS tires. If its just the brand, that stinks but not much I can do about it, though I will keep this in mind. I just want to make sure its not wrong fitment or setup.

I HAD faith these guys have the proper knowledge and equipment, but my first trip in my wheels didnt get ballanced correctly so that put some doubt in my mind. I hoped they didnt just look up a 335i sstaggered setup and try and put them on the xi without checking that spec. I know my 19" sizes but not so up on the stock fitments.

Thanks for the quick reply!

If they keep vibrating do a warranty claim with Continental through your installer if they (the installer) sold you the tires. What they did is offer me a replacement set but I still had to choose from Continental line as it was like 6 months after I purchased. However they have 30 day satisfaction guarantee as well. Maybe you can get a refund...

I would try Michelins PSS or Pilot Sport AS3 if you can get Continental to refund you.

Were the wheels installed correctly with the spacers? 3 series wheels are hubcentric. If they are not seated properly they will vibrate. And the hubs sometimes rust so proper installation can be difficult.

It sounds like the wheels aren't balanced properly or the wheel and spacer combo has hub enteric issues not matching like Laser said. Tire sizes are good.

I'm having the same issue after I upgraded to 19's from stock. Its fine city driving but as soon as I hit 65-70mph it get shaky and very annoying at 80mph. This is what I currently have Front: 19x8.5 ET32 | 235/35/19
Rear: 19x9.5 ET38 | 275/30/19

Currently its winter so they are not installed with spacers, just stock install. As far as the wheels installed correctly, I am taking a huge leap of faith and hoping the tire shop did their job properly. I have noticed minimal vibrations with the spacers but I know what that is and expect it. New stock tires I was not expecting to have this. However it could be the -4 degree days we have been haing just Fn with my driving comfort.

Regardless you should still jack the car up and check to see if the hubcentric rings are seated properly. The rims should be able to sit on the hub and rotate easily to align the bolt holes. With a bit of rust on them it is hard for them to seat properly. BMW's hubs are easily rusted. My stock 313 wheels were seized on the hub due to the rust, and when I took them off to replace with a set of 17'' for winter, those always seated at an angle until I clean up and polish the hubcentric rings. If the wheel plane is not parallel with the hub plane, it will cause an alignment issue and result in vibration.

I had the DWS for years, great tires.

To reduce the vibration, they need to properly Road Force Balance the tires.

Did they do Road Force Balancing? It makes all the difference.

Finally got this into a BMW dealership and here is the status:

They are telling me it is the transfer case for the xdrive that is causing the issue. They were able to turn it off electronically and the vibration went away completely. They are also tellilng me because i have kw v1's on the car that they are the cause of this issue and might not cover it under warranty. They wont know until monday if they will cover it or not, but the SA is saying its about a 30% chance they will not.

I dont know much about transfer cases, anyone have insight on this?

I have the exact same issue and same tire/wheel setup.
The dealership said I was missing a center ring.
Any suggestions?

If its just the actuator i found one as cheap as 450-700$ but if its the whole assembly it can be almost 2k$
