Now am I saying its good for the transmission, no. But many people take these cars to the strip with hundreds of runs on the auto transmission and I haven't heard of many failures.

TC doesn't lock until car is moving, if it were locked you'd stall the engine with the car at a standstill. Most official factory recommendations (across the board, any mfgr.) will tell you not to brake torque the car but you know that anyone who drag races a slushbox does it. What makes it bad is that you are dissipating all of the power that the engine is generating right into the trans fluid because the TC is trying to transmit that power to the rear wheels but you are preventing it from doing so by holding the brake, so literally all of the power that is going into the input of the TC is going right into the fluid that's inside the TC (and consequently, circulating through the tranny.)

So, short answer: don't brake torque any longer than you have to. e.g. don't start until you see the tree starting to count down, unless you're having issues consistently hitting your RPM target and need a little extra time to get it right. In any case, don't do it for any longer than you have to, because the longer you hold the car like that, the more total heat is going into the ATF.
