GIAC Stage 1 Max Psi

Hi,

I have the stage 1 Giac software and was wondering what the max boost I should be reading? I only get 11psi max...

On a side note, I was supposed to have stage 2 installed today and went for a test drive after the install and am still only getting 11psi. Makes me think they installed stage 1 again.

What Psi should I register with stage 2?

Thanks

You probably have a boost leak. Giac S1 is about 14psi. S2 is about 16.9 psi.

Hey, if you are reaching the TQ targets with less PSI you won't see 13.6 psi...

Meaning do you have other mods? Downpipe, intercooler, intake, exhaust, etc ??

Giac works on TQ targets not strictly pSI...

GIAC and BMW software work on torque targets. The engine sais "I need X lb-fts of torque" and then boost is upped until that torque is reached. If supporting mods are employed, such as an intercooler which helps for cooler (and denser) air entering the engine, a lower boost of colder air provides the same oxygen levels as a higher boost of hotter air.

I am inclined to agree with Vasillalov.

Stage 1 should be boosting around 13.8psi +/- 1psi depending on conditions (weather, AIT, supporting mods etc...)

In order to be running S2 you are required supporting mods. I have seen boost between 16-17.1psi on my S2 tune.

Best to check for leaks, do a 3rd or 4th gear pull and register your boost levels.

You would limp if you had a boost leak since you could not reach the tq targets....i am more inclined to think you boost gauge is not calibrated right.

Running stock DV and no BOV as I'm a A/T.
The stock DV are holding up pretty well so, if it's not broke don't fix it

Cool! Thanks. I am also running the stock DVs and they seem to be doing fine. I am running S1 as I need to get an intercooler, which has to wait till the spring.

I have all the required mods ... I am inclined to think I have a boost leak somewhere since I have never seen more than 11psi of boost. The mechanic who installed the stage 2 said the ECU needs to adapt ...? Is this true?

I think I will need to pressure test the whole system?

My current mods are - Custom DP, Forge intercooler and DV, Eisenmann Race Exhaust, Injen DCI Intake, Stage 2 Gaic Software, Burger O2 Fix, air scoops.

If I have a boost leak will the car throw a code?

Where should I check first?

Thanks

You would boost More if you had a leak and the car would probably limp. Do you have a boost gauge? Which one?
Let the car adapt and recalibrate the boost gauge.

Hi Enrita ...

I have a regular manual boost gauge ... by Turbo boost I think. Should be reading fine - but I might have a break in the line running into the guage maybe. The car does not burn over in second gear only breaks the tires loose in first. So i know I am not putting the power down.

If I give the ECU more time to adapt ... will the boost increase? That is what the tech who installed it said. It has only 18 miles since the install of G2 ...

Also just drove the car more ... and it feels hesitate at higher boost levels - not smooth when accelerating - leading me to think there is a boost leak. Still only holding 11psi.

cooler outside temps will also result in lower peak boost

just take the car back to the shop that did the GIAC installation and let them troubleshoot.

That is a BIG issue. It's a leak. It doesn't only cause your gauge to misread, it causes the engine to misinterpret some things too.
