335i with intake and turbo back exhaust 1/4 mile

hi was interested in getting a 335i and wanted to just do intake and full exhaust. does the car respond to mods without the tune? will that put me around 107-108 trap or is that only with a tune?

Tune = step 1 if you want to bump performance on a 335. Start there, work your way up.

They're pretty efficient as-is at stock boost levels.

Not much of a point if you cant tell the car to properly use the mods.

It would be more cost effective and powerful having the tune alone. VS those mods with no tune.

Why would you not want a tune?? If its a warranty your worried about, an exhaust and an intake can just as easily void your warranty as a tune.

Thats not true. Yes, they are all capable of voiding your warranty, but you're much more likely get by with an exhaust than a software modification. Exhaust, then intake then tune in the least risky order to most risky of the three.

Step 1 - cut a hole in the box
Step 2 - put your tune in that box
Step 3 - open the box

About a month ago I would agree with you. But look at that one e90 post member who's warranty is basically voided due to an intake.

You will probably feel a little better performance by adding cat-back and intake. Probably not that noticeable though.

I'm not tuned. I have a cat-back, drop-in filter and was on my volks w/ stickier tires (Kumhos) and ran a 13.5sec 1/4. This was my first time drag racing. I can't remember my trap speed. Point is... its not gonna do a whole lot as far as performance goes until you get a tune, get rid of your downpipes and add an intercooler.

Get a tune first, then worry about the supporting mods.

maybe 13.4/13.6 100/104mph

those are good mods but you will need new underware when you get a jb3/procede.

I think it was like a 103. I was an idiot and threw away the time-slip. I'm not a very good drag racer... that was my one good run lol

the major point here is that downpipes will run you about 600 for good ones. Exhaust can cost anywhere from a little less than 1000 to 3000.

and a JB3 will cost 500 and give you a real kick in the butt

Warranty is 100% in relation to your dealer. Some will turn a blind eye to it and some will be anal about it. Get to know your dealer then decide what mods to do. Any piggy back tune should be remove prior to bringing it into service for mechanical warranty work. I just did an oil change, left my tune installed and switched to map 0. No issues whatsoever. For an oil change, they will assign the car to a lube tech to work on. They couldn't be bothered by going into an ecu to see if you have a tune. They are paid a flat rate to due an oil change. Nothing more or less.
