Replicating 1M exhaust sound

I was set on purchasing the performance exhaust for my e92, but a coworker just bought the 1m and the exhaust sounds great. I youtubed the 1m akrapovic and like the "bark" the sound has, whereas the 335i performance exhaust is a more bassy grunt sound.

What would be required to replicate the sound? Custom Exhaust, downpipes? Obviously i cannot use the 1m exhaust but would like to get close.

Thanks

Looks like the 1M uses the same downpipes as any N54, then follows a 2>1 pipe and a single in dual out muffler:

A good starting point might be any of the single exhausts with dual tips, like VRSF?

You could try the 335IS exhaust. It is half the price of the performance exhaust and it sounds great. Maybe add downpipes to make it even louder

This might seem like a stupid question but where would you buy the IS exhaust? I haven't seen any vendor sell it. Dealership? And wouldn't it be super expensive from them?

I would keep a watch on the classifieds and also make a WTB in your regional forum.

This is it. You're hearing the different between a dual-muffler vs single muffler sound. Ever notice how the factory exhaust on a G37 coupe sounds more aggressive than the same sedan? It's in great part because of the single muffler on the coupe "collecting" the exhaust and resonating inside before going back out the dual outlets. The sedan has dual mufflers.

You'll want to stick with any single to dual tip set up! I have the HPF and it's about as close as you'll get! I believe the AE exhaust is a good choice as well?!

Exactly, Wooo vibrations and resonance!

Tischer sells the IS exhaust, but it isn't worth it, IMO. The PE is so much nicer.

1m has high flow cats: down pipes ARE different

1m akra has a "cut out" valve where half the flow goes through a dual-outlet suitcase muffler and the other half goes through straight pipes.

If I were to do it:

high flow catted downpipes -> y-merge -> 3.5" vibrant resonator -> 3.5" single pipe -> y-split -> reused stock exhaust "flapper" and straight pipe on one side and vibrant single in/dual out suitcase on other side.

So in this scenario would the straight pipe at the end merge back with one of the two muffler outlets?

I assumed that the desire was for quad exhaust. In which it would be routed over the muffler, like the Akra.

If not, just get a normal single in/ single out oval muffler, position it transverse, and have the left exhaust be the straight pipe and the right be the muffled.

Right. For the former, would be fun to see reactions at WOT.

You cant duplicate the sound unfortunately. You can however buy the Akrapovic exhaust if you want the Akra sound for the 335. I otherwise highly recommend the BMW PE exhaust.

HOLY SMOKES BATMAN!! Its $5425.00!!!!

Who the hell would pay that! You can buy upgraded turbos, or a custom top mount for that kind of money and get way more of an upgrade than just exhaust!

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-30...Fe-DQgodAAYA3A

Even $3170 for Stainless is sad!

http://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-17...FchxQgodbmgADg

You can get an exhaust shop to replicate that for maybe 1k. Half muffler half, straight pipe.
