Engine malfunction: reduced power. HELP!!!

So 2 months ago my check engine light came on in my 2008 335i. I took the car to bmw where they kept the car for 3 weeks. They fixed something to do with the turbos. The fuel pump was replaced prior to that. The car has 63k miles on it. No mods. No tuner. When the light comes on there is obviously a massive drop in power. Feels like 0 boost. I can turn the car off and the light goes off. Sometimes it doesn't come on all day, other days it comes on 10x a day, before i get out of the neighborhood. CAN ANYONE SHED SOME LIGHT ON MY SITUATION??? The car runs fine with normal power when the light is off with no odd noises...if anyone could lend some ideas i would really really appreciate it! Thanks everyone!

do you have the SES light on? or does it go away? You can go to autozone or NAPA or any auto store and they'll scan codes for you. Or you can buy a code reader for about $20 and report back

We can only help you if you can pull the codes. It is very difficult to solve these type of problems without them.

You should also note that they can only pull generic codes and not BMW specific codes. If you plan on keeping this car for a while then you should invest in a code reader. Cobb of JB4 will read codes if you are going to add a tune to your car but you can also just buy a code reader if you are not planning on adding a tune.

Post the codes and someone can help you.

The free version of the "Carly for BMW" mobile phone app will allow you to scan all codes.

Works with Android and iPhone. You can just use a $2 bluetooth(android) or WiFi(iPhone) adapter from eBay and you are good to go.

Like others have mentioned you need to get the codes ready.. You are flying blind otherwise.
