just for kicks priced a 328 sedan online

the 4 cyl F30 officially costs about $800 less than my 335i coupe did in 2007. Not even with navi, the car is over 45k...ouch.

I was just curious, what if I just bought a 4 cyl, and use it as a daily driver, keep the options down, maybe I get out at 36-38k--wishful thinking!

Shit John, now is the perfect time to snatch up one of those E90s- they are practically giving them away around where I am!

Welcome to the trend. It seems all the mfr's are cost cutting the crap out of their vehicles, and charging same/more.

So you get less, and pay more. At least they should set you up with a jar of vaseline when they have you over the table signing the papers.

The f30 328 with a tune will smoke a stock e90.

Definitely but at what cost in the long run if you're just running high boost on a 4cyl. Im guessing you meant e90 328 because its obviously not going to smoke a 335

I meant a stock 335i. The f30 328 already smokes the e90 328 stock to stock.

And how do you gather that? A stock 335i dynos 270 WHP or so, a tuned 328i currently dynos around 255 by burger tuning and they say soon they may be able to gain another 10 WHP so we can expect 265 WHP at the max. I cannot see this as being smoking in any sort of way...

You think only 10 more go can be eked out of the new motor?

Last dyno I saw was 260 hp 280 ft/lbs for tune only on the N20, but don't forget it has the 8 speed automatic which helps acceleration a fair bit and the 4 cylinder weighs a bit less.

Smoke a 335i, not really, run with a stock one - should be right there!

It's interesting though, that as one forum member discovered, according to the latest f30 C&D test and compared to their e90 2009 test, e90 328i beats f30 in rolling start 5-60mph test. It took $34K e90 6.4sec, where $50K f30 made it at 6.5sec.

But overall f30 328i is faster than e90 328i for sure.

I was just kidding when I was saying FACT. I actually have no idea about what can smoke what. I'm pretty much a n00b.

Tune only... yes but with bolt ons and meth obviously more... potentially a touch over 300 WHP which is nice but that is still less by about 30 WHP than a tune only N55 LOL. This is the difference between a 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder motor... With a turbo upgrade things may change but we shall see.

I suppose you have to cheer yourself up in preparation for your next lease

A heavily tuned 328 will smoke a 335i, just as a $2000-tuned 335i N54 will smoke an M3. So what ?...

I was kidding.

And I've never leased in my life, not that I think there's anything wrong with a lease.

I'm not sure of the point you are making or if you are just commenting but of course everything is a lot more expensive in 2012 than in 2007. But you can get a decently equipped F30 for about $40K with the premium package. A 2011 E90 328i with ZPP is not that much less.
