Gearbox software reset?

My auto box is getting a bit lazy on my 2006 325. Most of time it is fine but sometimes hold revs when it shouldn't and then snatches a gear. I've read that a software update can solve this, do I just phone up a Indy garage and ask for a price for gearbox software update or is it a more general software update I need? I'm not taking it to a BMW dealer on principle the 2 nearest me are useless!

Try doing a reset first. You can do this yourself by turning the ignition on but with the engine not running and then fully press the accelerator pedal for 30 seconds i.e. hold the kickdown switch down.

I've tried it and it makes a difference.
