New user and accident...

Hi all,

Ive been snooping around this forum for a couple of weeks now following the purchase my 2011 black 125i (non M sport argg). Car was purchased straight from the dealer and it was the last 1er they had in stock so i didnt really have a choice of options.

I really wanted a 135 however given my current financial situation (mortgage and a wife that spends too much!), my budget was only $55kish...

Anyway after reading through these forums there are some upgrades i have planned for my little beamer (exhaust, intake and some cosmetics).

Well this morning ive had me first accident! rear ended at the lights. I think the only damage is only on the bumper - see attached

What do you guys think?
Ps. am i able to claim M sport bumper from my insurer?

Welcome, congrats and commiseration. real bad luck there. Once you have the repair assessed by the insurer, there is always the option to fit the M bumper by paying the gap yourself. all the best.

Insurer may accept an m-sport bumper if its the same cost as an original, else pay the difference. Really depends who your insured with...

Garage List
i imagine it'll depend on if there's a cost difference and how flexible your insurer is.

OT but if you're interested in the M-sport suspension (springs and struts), sway bars and/or control arms, send me a PM and I'll do a good deal for you

Last time I was rearended I got a new exhaust.

The way my bodyshop and I worked it out is so long as its a BMW part number insurance wont care.
So I got a performance exhaust to replace my broken stocker.

Not sure if its different in Australia...but thats how it works in the states.

Also get it checked. I had a relatively unscathed bumper aswell but had 9K US in damage underneath it. Dont drive it if you dont have to right now.

oh shit black luck man. i know how you feel mate.. i had my car for 3 weeks and some nugget forgot to put his parking brakes on and my 135i trying to be a hero while being parked stop it and did like 16k + of damages..

umm is the paint damaged on that? if the paint isn't damaged you should be able to get someone to pull it out with a heat gun, unless you want the M sport rear bar...(then get a carbon diffuser) lol

you have to justify if you want to go through your insure or just paying for the damages im just guessing its between $1000 to $2000 going out right.

The need to make a claim is very much more than likely.

I recently had a young kid run into the back of me at only a few ks/ph after he dropped a cigarette ash in his lap...

A minor scratch on the bumper and the m-sport diffuser... no internal damage (which would be the expensive part)... and the quote came back at $3300

To the OP bad luck and hope you can get it fixed but with Christmas coming you probably have to wait for a while

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yeh i was shattered on the morning of the accident. However reading some of your replies this may work in my favor...hehe

Im going to take it to get a quote in the New year and ask for the M sport bumper!
If i was to kick in my exhaust and cause enough damage, i could blame it on the accident and replace the old exhaust with BMW PE? Although i think this may be considered as 'fraud' lol.

However as 'RaihaX' has mentioned, given the Xmas and NY holidays approaching most workshops in Canberra are closed until at least 9th Jan!
