Bill Jacobs BMW in Naperville question

So Finally I got a dealership that understand the situation with the lifter knocking noise, I have an appointment on Monday and I was wondering what your experience with this dealership was? Also, I have a few different mods on the car and I was wondering if I should take them out before taking it in for service.

Thank a bunch

I'd definitely take the JB3 out. You may be able to get by with having the BOV on. When they see that stuff, it may raise a flag to start looking for mods they can blame the problem on.

I usually deal with Andre @ Laurel BMW in Westmont (not too far away), and he makes sure I keep my warranty

The 335 has no lifter issues. If you are hearing a noise when you start the car, it is the fuel injectors and is normal. Both of my 335's have made the same noises. Just be sure what you think you are hearing. The injector tic can be very loud.

Also, take the JB3 off you sig since the dealers look for that stuff as proof you did something..

thanks for the advice, the only reason I am going to Bill Jacobs is because I have read a guy locally who had his lifter knocking taken care of, and they pretty reassured me that they have done plenty and they sounded like they knew what they were talking about

The motors in the 328's (the N52) are the ones with lifter issues.

Bill Jacobs is alright. Did the NIC disable without any sort of resistance or hesitation. I've had a couple SA's there that have been great after the first one was kinda douchy.

Now if I could just get them to take my car for a couple days to figure out the intermittent electrical gremlins....

No. Of course not. I don't even know of any potential mods for these cars.

(BTW, I have pointed them to a couple of threads on here, one started by me, so they do know who I am)

I take my car there, I know Aaron, the shop foreman. We used to work together years ago, and when I had an issue with my car, I just went in to talk to him and he has always been fair to me. I showed him the car straight up, and just asked him what his thoughts were. He knows that I understand that I may have issues as a result of mods, and I have accepted those risks, but I haven't removed anything from my car when I took it in.
My service advisor is Eric Ryan, he is a younger guy who is into cars and understands them too.

Good luck,
Nick

+1 on Eric. Took care of the NIC problem for me without blinking an eyelash. It was great.

Most of all, he was conservatively knowledgeable. Knew his shit without trying to talk you down. I really respect that.

yeah that isn't the lifter knock.

do you have MT?

I noticed mine does that same kind of noise in in neutral but not in gear... check on that cuz it could be your trans/clutch

Neutral Idle Control. When you're stopped for a while at a light (AT), the car shifts itself into neutral for emissions and consumption improvement. This can lead to jerking forward when you lessen pressure on the brake pedal, even if it's not enough to start moving forward again. This is the transmission shifting back into 1st, thinking you're about to start driving again. It's pretty violent sometimes and downright annoying. Feels like somebody rear ended you.

They can disable it for you if you request it. There is a SIB out on it.

I've got a ticking noise but I assumed it was the wastegates or injectors.

I've been going to Jacobs for 9 years, on numerous cars. Their service was excellent at first, then they had a period about 4-5 years ago were it got worse, but now they seem to have righted the ship. I only deal with Eric, who knows his shit and will listen to what you have to say. For instance, I had no issues talking to them last Winter about the lag fix and retrofit. There are a few mechanics there that are in to mods, so not sure if that would be an issue or not. But better safe than sorry. They are building a brand new facility around the corner from the present, that looks about 3 times the size.
