It's warning you that its cold.

Most cars are equipped with summer biased tires, that dont perform well at all in those temperature.

Hell I noticed a difference at 50 degrees that traction was a significantly reduced.

Oh and

Its just a warning light. Incase you didn't know it was cold outside and it could be icey now you do. Both VWs have it as well. COmes on when you start the car and then only comes on again f the temp goes above it and then below it again. Waste of an icon honestly. If you cant think for yourself "hey its 28 degrees outside maybe I should pay attention to the possibility of ice" that light isn't gonna help you.

I have read the manual lol

I know WHY it came

BUT what I said was that 37 is not that cold...
I've driven in colder temps and it was fine..

I mean, at 0 (32) I can understand...

And I guess you guys in the cold areas just get used to it like I've gotten used to my TMP mal warning lol

When you first get in your car and the temperature is say, 42, the car won't chime. You think it's not that cold out. Then you go driving along in your nice toasty-warm car and you don't realize in your drive you've gained altitude or maybe you've driven into a shaded area. The temperature has now dropped to or below 37 degrees outside but you think it's still a toasty-warm 42 just like when you got in your car umpteen miles before. The car knows better and is telling you that the road conditions have changed and that there is a possibility the road surface may be coated in black ice.

With the apparent onset of cold weather in California you might want to recheck and adjust your tire pressures. In an enclosed system like a tire a colder temperature will mean lower pressure.

Roll on spring time!

The warning has been going off alot lately and I think it's a good feature.

The standard Bridgestone Potenza run flat tyres are rubbish in this cold weather.

Is the below part in your manual as well ?

There is an increased risk of black ice.
Black ice can also form at temperatures
above
+37F/+3C. You should therefore
drive carefully on bridges and shaded
roads,
for example, otherwise there is an
increased risk of an accident

You asked:
Quote:
It got to about 37 degrees tonight and I got a low outside temp warning...

wtf?
I assume this is the answer, if not, please rephrase your question.

Yes, great answer if the question was "what does this symbol mean?/What does it mean when it says low temp warning?"

I was just saying "wtf" as to me, 37 degrees is not that cold...

42 is not toasty warm either though haha

I had an alignment done last week and they took all four tires off and checked their temps
38PSi, right where I like it.

37F might not seem that cold, but 32F is the freezing point of water...so it makes sense. It's a warning that it's approaching the temperature at which water can become very, very unsafe to drive on.

I find it super helpful in California, where you can drive from a comfy 75 degree day at the beach to a snowstorm in the mountains in about 5 hours (and I do, regularly). Gets my head in "oh right, time to be aware of ice" mode.

I can see your point, here in Massachusetts, I know it's cold though from the foot of snow on the ground. I keep my car garaged so the 'it's cold' chime usually comes a few min after I leave which is annoying.

I find the Yellow triangle with the snow flake helpful. Sometimes I forget that there may be black ice when its a nice cold sunny day. Scared the shit out of me when i first saw it on my car. I legit thought my car was having problems...
