I spin all 4 of my tires with the JB3 on Map 5 with a DRY pavement. All traction control systems off of course. Either way, If there is a switch that we can turn on and off to have RWD even if the ABS is disabled, that would be GREAT! Having a RWD car in the summer and AWD in the winter, cant go wrong with that. My buddy has a 350z with no abs or traction control and its not a problem at all; when its dry out

When you figure it out, let me know! It is in some BMW literature though. I think maybe even BMW ad copy writers don't even understand how xDrive works.

Devil's advocate: If the back wheels are spinning freely, they are capable of capturing none of the torque. Hence, '100%' of the available torque is heading out the front wheels.

not entirely true... even if you got a point. but if the backwheels are "spinning" then the front cant get all "100%" right? a little bit has to go to the back to make them spin.
the front can never spin faster or pull harder then the backwheels. meaning that not more then 50% can ever go to the front.
atleast not on the e90.

Very curious. I somehow doubt Shiv/Terry can magically do this... but let's see what happens Definitely ultimate user power if they can.

I'm curious - since "normally" the car doesn't put more than 60% torque to the back wheels, is it possible that when you do the fuse trick, it doesn't send 100% of the power to the back? Just wondering - clearly I don't know anything about it.

I run map 5 dci- nothing else. It is hard for me to spin all 4. Do you have AT or MT? Just curious. sorry to hijack.

I doubt a simple switch could be installed....you would need to code the car to disable DTC, DSC, AWD, and ABS....without disabling all the other systems, belt tensioner, speedo, wipers, wheel angel sensor, etc.

A switch could be installed, its a matter of how much youre willing to sacrifice.

Lack of speedo, no problem. Use the RPM gauge and what gear you're in or get a speedo app for your phone.

DSC, DTC, the point of this rwd mod is to make a little wheelspin so thats not a problem

The fuse is not going to disable engine electrics, as the amperage is a fiver.

ABS....... thats one to be concerned about. I tested this with a sudden yet medium application to the brakes and they locked up. If you can train your foot as you would need to do with the DSC and DTC off, this shouldnt be hard to accomplish...
but... the EBD (brake distribution) is off as well so that may be an inconvenience for those accustomed to it.

I was thinking something like this glued to the fusebox cover. All you would need to do is extend the circuit, break one of the conducting ends with this on/off and mount it.

Switch is like cents on the dollar.

if someone want´s to put a switch to disable this fuse the simplest way to do it is to:

take the fuse out.
take a wire whit a "crimp" on it and put it into one of the two holes ware the fuse was.
put a hanger fuse in the other end of that wire.
go from that hanger fuse to a switch
go from the switch back to the other hole ware the original fuse was.

done, simple and reversible

if you have problems finding at crimp that has a leg that is just as thin as the original fuse ther is no problem to chop it down a little using a cutter.

I wouldn't wire this because it's very easy to turn it off with the car on...I would think you would damage diffs if you "turned off" the fuse while the car was on.

Also like I mentioned before you get numerous hidden faults....not that that's a problem but you need to keep clearing them.

If you wire it correctly, it shouldnt be something to worry about.

I have no warranty, and the check engine light turns off after the second or third start. Shouldnt be a problem or else we wouldnt be taking out the fuse in the first place.

I like the feeling of awd anyway, so the rwd will seldom be used.

All traction systems off, brake stand in 1st gear until about 3k rpm and let it go. AT by the way.

I would do that switch in a heart beat but only if we can disable the wipers along with it. I dont plan on running rwd in the rain anyway so no point in avoiding that. The codes arent a big deal. They can all be cleared anyway.

^ Yea, clearing codes isn't my concern. It's people flipping the switch when the car is running, possibly damaging the diff/xDrive system.

that's curious. i can't do that on mind. i CAN make the wheels squeak, but they very quickly regain traction.you must be on some slick tires / slippery roads

Honestly, its not our problem if they do. We know the potential effects, and will gladly warn them, but beyond that it becomes their responsibility.
