*Dinan Flash AND Oil Cooler REVIEW!!*

Just got my car back today from having the Dinan high capacity oil cooler and Dinan flash installed. My car is a 2007 335i sedan (Auto.) with no sport package.

First of all, the Dinan oil cooler is absolutely amazing (we all know it is probably overpriced, but please let's not discuss that in this thread). It simply dwarfs the stock additional oil cooler in terms of size. The quality of the materials included in the entire kit (hoses, etc.) are top notch. It was so big in fact, that there was some cutting required in my front passenger wheel well to get it to fit properly (dealer did a great job here actually). Put simply, the Dinan oil cooler is a beast.

My car's oil temp. before I got the oil cooler usually ran at about 250-255 degrees under very spirited driving. Today, I absolutely beat the piss out of the car for a couple of hours, and the hottest the oil temp. got with the cooler was 235 deg., and when I let up, the temp. would fairly quickly drop to about 225 deg. The new oil cooler is definitely making a difference. I look forward to seeing if this will be consistent, as the oil temp. is now running about 15 degrees cooler.

Now to the flash. I KNEW something was different with my engine when I had the car in "D" mode, started to give it some gas, and as I pulled away from the dealer, there was NO sudden/awkward jerk forward (which I had experienced before occasionally with the stock setup). When lightly or normally modulating the throttle, the smoothness and drivability of the car is completely different from stock. It is so much better, it is remarkable.

Once I had an open stretch of highway, it was time to try out "DS" mode. I would agree with the other reviews of the flash in that the bulk of the added power is felt after surpassing about the 30-40% throttle point. This is what I enjoy so much about this tune. It is very smooth and practical in traffic, parking lots, or cruising, with added quickness over stock. But when you choose to get on the gas a little bit or go WOT, the car rapidly launches forward and you are thrown back into your seat (and kept there) with a ferocity that the stock 335i cannot come close to matching. This is true from both a stop and a roll. The added power that the flash offers feels incredible. Also, the smoothness of the power delivery is startling, and much more pleasing than stock. In short, I thought my old 335i was damn fast, but this car now is an absolute rocket ship. When I hammered the gas from a roll I would easily break traction (in the right gear). I also enjoyed some mind-blowing, tire-ripping launches from a stop. I have only had the car back for a couple of hours, so I will certainly add more later, and I am open to any questions...but right now I just want to drive!

Its especially worth it because you still have a warranty and dont need to hide the mod from your dealer

I will try to take some pictures of it this weekend definitely! I will also look into getting a dyno done after the car has had a chance to adapt to the flash. Thanks again to you Shadyg for all of the information you provided for me and questions you answered leading up to me getting the flash.

I agree with Shadyg, post up some pics of that monster sized oil cooler!

The reduced oil temps are something I would feel alot better about, my oil temps are always around 235-240 in normal driving, and 250+ when I push it and I have the factory oil cooler!

I honestly wouldn't mind putting the Dinan oil cooler in my car, but that price just isn't making sense to me. If it were 500 them maybe I'd do it.

Thanks to everyone for the responses! I took the car out tonight for about a 2 hour highway drive, the Dinan oil cooler worked very well, as my oil temp. never exceeded 230 degrees with high speed cruising coupled with intermittent hard, high-speed (nothing dangerous) pulls. Another aspect I have noticed about the flash is that the exhaust note is a bit different. The change is not overly dramatic compared to stock, but it is very clear. The exhaust definitely sounds more "authoritative" now, without question. I don't know if any of the other members with the Dinan tune have noticed this as well.

nice write up, the only thing i don't like about upgrading the oil cooler is you lose the factory bypass valves. For us here in Fl, thats not big deal, but for the northern folks, its gonna be hell.

I definately notice a deeper exhaust when i get on the throttle! The more I drive my flashed 335, the more I don't want to stop! I've also noticed NO change in gas mileage with the flash which is quite impressive considering I'm getting on the car much more now too.
This car is just night and day from stock....it's amazing!!!!

Why would that be? Are you saying it will take longer for the engine to heat up, so it would take longer to get in heat in the car in cold weather?

With the added capacity/cooling even w/o factoring the valves opening at higher temps it will take longer to heat the engine. All the extra volume and surface area will add some time. Probably a few extra minutes.

I was thinking the same thing...although, it's not like it's coolant we're talking about. That's often the detriment of the performance mod of putting on a lower temp thermostat...it opens sooner to keep the engine coolant cooler, but, hurts the car's ability to warm up well in cold weather.
