X5 shifter
just curious on how come our car didn't get the new shifter in the X5? My mom just got her X5 4.8i, which is fully loaded without active cruise control, and man that thing is fast. but the shifter in it is so much cooler than ours. it still has manual mode, you just push it the left and and shift the same as you would in our cars. Our transmission shifts faster ofcourse, but i think its a lot better than ours.
second question: how do i get the navigation on the screen, to be full screen? i cant figure it out.. P.s. the tires on the back of this thing are 315s!! ill have pictures posted tomorro THANKS! |

So how is it better than the transmission in the 335i besides the 'cooler looks'?
btw, love your nickname, very subtle

its easier to use. its newer. no other car would have something like it, (non bmw). my moms old volvo had the same type of shifter as my 335.. i guess you have to use it to understand..
anyways, how about some1 tell me how to get my navigation to full screen?! |

Do you have the NAV Map set to the assist window (the smaller window on the right)? You can put the map on the left which is larger but you can't expand it across both screens.

i don't really understand what you're saying. in the e90, you push the shifter to the left as well to get into manual mode.
maybe a pic would help?

Press downward on the iDrive dial to get yourself into the "i" setting menu, then there should be a slection for monitor. You can select full-screen, its default mode is split.

No problem, yeah it's pretty sweet. It's all electronic, all you gotta do to park it is hit the P button. Kinda weird but cool.

The trans is the same 6 speed (at least for the e93) but the physical gear shifter on the X5 is electronic This shifter works the same as the older one (on the e90s) but is smoother. You don't feel the gear notches and when in manual mode shifting is pretty munch effortless (some might call it numb). Personally I think it's great on the X5. I read the '08 5 series will have it too. I suspect the e90's will get it eventually. BMW will probably let the 5 series have the exclusive for a while. |

Thx for the pic. Looks cool + functional. Still old school...nothing like the MT.
