Strange behavior after change of subframe bushings
Hi guys
Recently I had my subframe bushings changed to the ones from powerflex. After that I feel that the car kind of jumps sideways in the rear when hitting potholes, draincovers and similar. I have relative new bilstein dampers so it shouldn't be Them giving up. And after the installation of the bushings, the car litterally eats rear tires. First set lasted 2,5 month and aprox 12.000km. And now after aprox 9.000km, I need another set of tires again.... Any advise would be appreciated

Those problem's could all be alignment related. The tire issue is almost surely alignment related.
Otherwise, jumping sideways could be a result of your choice of Poly bushings, which have far less compliance over rough surfaces as compared to rubber OEM or M3 units. |

It would be interesting to hear guys who have experienced both chime in...I've read on here in the past where at least a few guys preferred the poly bushings over the M3 units when it came to ride compliance.

A bad rear alignment could also cause the rear to seem super darty sideways (think toe out instead of toe in) in addition to the unusual tire wear. If you feel the rear step out a little too much doing serpentine side-side on smooth pavement, no bumps, def could have some toe out going on.
Regardless, an new alignment is in order before concluding anything. While under there if it were me I'd check the TQ on the 4 big subframe bolts, and anything else that got R&R'd on install to make sure nothing is moving around that shouldn't be. |

Thnx guys, I have thought of the same tings.
And yes, it feels like the car is wobling with the rear on smooth surface. I have to add I have also changed the bushings in the lower controlarms and in the lower large arms(dont know the name for them in english) to powerflex. I have scheduled a new alignment friday( third one) and a new set of tires al around. The tires are goodyear F1 asymetric2. The new ones Will be bridgestone potenza. I will have the garage to test all links to be sure they all are as they should be. And I Will have them allign the car as for a performance spec'd car. As Fcobra94 said, it would be Nice to hear what experience other ppl have with the M3 bushings?

Rear control arms are the issue as they are soft and really the last issue in the rear for you
Update to trw or m3

Powerflex is stiffer and more durable. No rubber, pure polyeruthan :-)

I still don't get it. Did you replace just the M3 subframe bushings with poly or the rest of the control arm/link bushings and keep the M3 subframe ones?

Frist I replaced the subframe bushings and the rear lower lateral arm bushings with powerflex bushings and then Got it aiigned. Then the started acting Strange on potholes. Kind of twitching to the side. Then I Got all the other bushings on the trailing arms replaced with powerflex and a new alignment.
And now it works!! :-)

Yea, a little of both. The car has +290.000km on the clock. The OEM bushings where a bit tired ;-)

Yes you can
the top and side M3 rear control arms from BMW or TRW will work. But before you do this - check alignment - Toe can eat tires EDIT - good to see you solved most problems with Bushes
