Ice racing Georgetown

Have any of you taken part in any open days or group meets for ice racing up in Georgetown? I stopped by one time and there was an e36 meet going on and they seemed to be lapping for free but other times I've seen much more organized "track" days. Just curious if any of you know whats up

The RMCBMWCCA holds a gymkhana race on the lake every year (January typically). Have to be on the ball to sign up though, it fills up in a day or two of registration opening. Its like $45.

I have done that the last 3 years, pretty fun.

I did it once for some Subaru day with my old car. Maybe it was just having a lot of cars out there but it was like $25-30 and if you lose a race you're out, so I didn't really think you get your money's worth. It wasn't like you got to drive around a lot. They set up mirrored tracks and you race someone else at the same time. You're out if you lose or if you touch a cone. Basically you slide around in 1st gear, it doesn't get much faster than that.

It's fun and you get good practice with countersteering/drifting and knowing how your car handles in a slide though. To me the time actually running and the drive up there made it fun for a one time thing. I think they only allow AWD cars also. Again this all could have just been the setup for that one day.
