Lowering E90 cheapest way possible
So I was recently passed down my Dad’s 2006 330i that he’s kept in really good shape throughout the years (he’s the first and only owner) and I’ve been wanting to do a little work to improve it’s aesthetics. I’m looking at different options to drop the car for improved handling and looks but I also don’t want to spend more than 600 or so since I don’t plan on tracking the car or keeping it for longer than a couple years or so. What are some good options for me?

Car is low enough from factory IMO but many here put Eibachs/h&r's matched with some new strut/shocks....that falls outside your budget i think...... so find some lowering springs and try your luck with ride quality.

save the $600 and use it for something useful, not ruining your car with shit suspension mods for looks.

The E90 is already low enough, it's even lower if you have the sport package which a lot of 330i's have. The F30 is a monster truck compared to the E90....
OP, no offense but you sound like a high school or college kid who just got their first car and it happens to be a BMW...I know you're dying to mod it out and all that but you need to chill out and just enjoy the car as it is. $600 can be better spent else where rather than lowering the car by 0.5 inches which also makes the car less usable. For $600 you can take care of a few things like Waterpump/thermostat, plugs/coils, leaky gaskets (VCG, OFHG, etc.), belt and belt tensioner etc..... If you really want to "mod it out" for $600 you can get new set of wheels like the Alzor 030 ($459). If you actually care about performance get a BPC tune or AA tune. Exhaust mods are nice too, AA exhaust or Rogue Engineering Ikon (both are under $600). ALL OF THESE OPTIONS ARE BETTER THAN LOWERING YOUR CAR.

So first off, what options does it have? A manual transmission? Sport package? If it has either, then keep the car for a long time. How many miles are one it?

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I actually got some new wheels on it, I don’t have the sport package but I guess I’ll take everyone’s advice and use that 600 or so one a tune. Appreciate the advice

you could always buy ST coilovers , basically the same as KWs for half the price
about 850 $ , and if you do the installation yourself then it would fall very very close to your budget. You can adjust the height , you ll improve handling look them up . I have them myself and I love them. |

If you don't have Sport package, my advice would be to keep an eye out for a used take-off sport suspension setup for sale on these forums or ebay etc.
The factory sport suspension, especially in 2006, was plenty low and has a really nice stance, while still being BMW-engineered for a good balance of handling and ride quality with the emphasis on handling. I just sold my '06 330i Sport but I had a few people ask me "is that stock suspension?" |

When I had my 2009 328i E93, at 31K miles I put the H&R springs on with the OEM shock/struts. I replaced the OEM shock/struts at 156K miles.

Also...OP please post some pics. You can't make a new car thread like this without pics!
I'm surprised no one asked for pics yet lol

The cheapest way would be to cut a dead coil off the springs.
The best way would be to not do it at all. |
