New N55 Tune - JB+ Quick Install! - Updated with Install Video

Great news for the N55 Community!! Something I have kept under wraps for a while but now I can officially announce it and provide you some details. Exciting news

JB+ for the N55!

Quote:

Hey guys,

This isn't the Stage2 many of you have been asking for. But believe it or not we actually get more requests for an N55 quick install tuner than we do for Stage2. So we've been developing and testing this over the past few weeks.

I finally had a chance to do a little dyno testing and I have to say I'm quite impressed with the results. The power gains are very similar to the JB3 Stage1 only install time is reduced to seconds. The device attaches to the MAF sensor which sits right in the center of the engine bay. It literally takes you longer to open your hood than it does to install this. Will make a video soon.

For the testing we did a fresh baseline and then a few JB+ runs with the results attached below. The best part is the DME is aware of the true boost values without triggering tuner codes. So you get perfect OEM quality mapping only with 2-3psi more boost. Because the DME has the true boost values you can now use a BMS CAN Tool to accurately monitor boost in dash via the OBDII port. It also has a small dial for fine tuning. Very cool! Attached is a video of a stock run and tuned run for boost comparison.

It does not have lagfix like the N55 Stage1 so it's a little less responsive down low. Instead it's smooth and OEM like. And when you get on the gas the extra power and torque is very noticeable. Overall it's a nifty product. Retail price is $279 and we're looking for beta testers.
Here is a dyno showing the gains. Completely stock car on 91 octane

If enough people are interested in downgrading BMS may offer something. Haven't heard of anything yet though. Hope to get my first 5 beta units next week.

Why would you want to downgrade?

I guess... Going from 4 connectors to 1 is simplier.... But more likely to forget it's there when you visit the dealership too... IDK... Different strokes for different folks...

When you dyno you throw all sorts of ABS/brake codes from the front wheels not spinning.

Hey Mike, can you please explain exactly how this is different from the Stg.1?

I didn't know this until a few days ago, I had to go to the state referee and get my car smogged, when I pulled it off, I had all sorts of lights on my dash, at first I was going to give them shit, but then I drove literally 20 feet and they turned off.

The JB+ gives faster install with similar power gains.. But it lacks the lagfix option so low throttle tip in will feel more like stock rather than the surge of thrust you get with the Stage1's lagfix.

SO essentially, you get a good boost in power for 280 (JB+ N55), but if you want lagfix functionality and the ability to play with your settings (although not recommended) your better off getting the Stg 1 tune for $380... More or less

I'll stick to Stg 1 tune... Anyway, Terry said he would add the JB+ functionality to the STG 1 tune, so you would have a Map for Stg 1 and a Map for JB+ type action, so, with that said No need to Trade-In for the JB+ folks. Just stick to what you have, unless you don't care about Lagfix...

I quote to reinforce: "I expect the JB+ will become more popular than the Stage1 just due to the ease of install and lower price. But the Stage1 does have lagfix which is nice. With the next Stage1 firmware we'll load in a JB+ map as well so you can toggle between the two with the laptop and see if you can live without the lagfix."

Also I imagine that jb+ will not be a golden ticket to a stg 2 when it comes out. Maybe I will stick with the stg 1 =)

I'll be picking up my 2011 335 xdrive in April which will be leased. If I buy this new unit, would I encounter any problem codes when I bring it in for service? The car would remain stock otherwise. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks
