BMW Dinan software bug, enhanced with stage 2 Mod

I've had the Dinan stage 2 software mod on my 2010 335i E92 for about two weeks & 200+ miles. After the mod was completed i went to tear up some asphalt on the local interstate. I noticed that the turbo boost was not smooth during Wide Open Throttle while on the highway in 3rd 4th gear. It was more like a consistent short bursting boost. Two weeks and 200+miles later, it’s exactly the same. I called Dinan and spoke to a technical representative. He informed me that this is a known issue by BMW and Dinan. Something to the affect that BMW's latest stock software causes the throttle body to oscillate when under boost. Apparently this happens in some stock cars but is not noticeable. With the Dinan stage 2 mod the boost issue is more noticeable because there is more boost. He says there are about 30+ known Bmw's with this issue. Also says that Steve Dinan has had the BMW engineers out to test the issue and they have confirmed that there is an issue. I asked to be put on the list of cars with issue and to be notified when there was a fix. The current work around(s) for this issue are; put the software back to stock or go to stage 1 mod or stay with stage 2. With either option, they say that there is no harm being done to the engine.
Dinan says if bmw doesn't come up with a fix then Steve Dinan will have his engineers come up with a fix. To Be Continued.......

I have had the same issue with my 2008 135i since last summer. I am in shock that Dinan has not addressed this problem by now. This issue has taken the fun out of driving my car.

lol

so because dinan costs 3x more than cobb, it's higher qualty? GTFO

i'd wager cobb's tune has hundreds more hours of r&d behind it. that's what I would call quality

It is definitely oscillation....No its not just with the S2 tune, its with ALL of their stage tunes.

They knew about this for over three years, maybe more, and its still continueing

Before going with another tune, I had my DME updated with the latest software from BMW.

After flashing to the new RennTech "test" tune, I noticed the same oscillation, but after a 100 miles, during the DME adaptation, I am now oscillation free and am running much more power than the Dinan stage 3 (I will not comment on numbers)

So I doubt its boost as I am running more boost, so more than likely its software related

Watch out, rich guy over here!!!!

I can tell you now that its not worth waiting. More people have gone from Dinan to Cobb than Cobb to Dinan.

On top of that, I can tell you from personal experience that I have crushed Dinan tuned e92 335's with my Cobb tuned e92 335.

But listen, we are talking about cars and cars are very personal and thats that!

Some people want this and others want that! That's how it will always be.

The problem lies in variances between stiffness in wastegate actuators. Shiv has commented on this a few times when trying to bash flash tunes.

thanks... yeah same here

between the oscillation, lower gas mileage (17.5 used to be 22), squeeky brakes, fuel pumps, 2nd gear syncro problem... 2015 cant come fast enough!

"Dinan says if bmw doesn't come up with a fix then Steve Dinan will have his engineers come up with a fix. "

Seriously doubt it, i've played their game before and it wasnt fun, wouldnt be surprised if the rep your talking to is deliberately blowing you off.

on another note... they do lurk the forums and this will be read by them...

ppp

$2 GRAND DOWN THE DINAN... ER DRAIN

I researched the Dinan stage 2 software upgrade feverishly for about two weeks before my purchase and I haven't seen this issue out there. So, I find it kind of ironic that I've got to start this thread about what seems to be a known issue? I emailed this threads link to the Dinan technical representative that I spoke to so he can gather information.

^clearly you researched the wrong avenues. Hardly anyone recommends dinan. Cobb is by far a better choice, even for those with warranty concerns. And it makes more power. And there's frequent updates. And it has high resell value. And there's tons of support from the vendors and thousands of users. And it can be custom tuned for more power and safety now. And it reads/clears codes. And its the best data logging option available......I could really keep going

I have had Dinan on all my N54 cars, LONG before you knew anything about Dinan or its existence.

All the mods on my cars are Dinan, and I know their tune in and out of its capabilites. My 335is was the first, the test car, to have Dinan stage 3 before it was even posted on Dinan's website.

On both cars, the 335i - preowned, and the 335is - NEW, they all had oscillation. Its not just the Dinan tune, it is also an issue with the Cobb tune also - which is suppose to be corrected this week with their next update release.

If you havent noticed, a majority of e90post members do not like Dinan, and anyone with a Dinan tune catches hell as this is not a Dinan friendly invironment. So why would they post here about problems they have with Dinan ?

I already got the battle scars with some of them on countless threads, I just leave Dinan as my avatar just to piss them off

I am 100% for warranty and the bump in the power that Dinan provides for "an efficient, gas saving, daily driver"; but I got the mod bug and became a power hungry whore .

The person you spoke with was Scott Leandres.......

I am speaking from experience with Dinan, I have no regrets getting the tune. It served its purpose, and I just wanted more
