This Forum ...

Is sometimes an amazing place.

For those who havent read the 'What its Worth' thread, have a read.

Not only to put your own problems into perspective, but also to see the sort of decent folks who frequent this forum.

Its rare....but also, I fear, it's disappearing.

A number of people have gone and as the 'e90' starts to fade, I fear a number of 'relationships' (is that the right word?) built on here over the last few years will disappear.

Consider not only the response to that thread but also that the OP feels that he could share that on here - you'd never do that on PH now would you!

No you wouldn't Andrew. This is by far the best forum I've been on, for banter and for serious help.

Ys it's disappearing, but hopefully people who move on with their cars will stay on here.

Joined this forum few months before ordering my e90 and then by accident having met Tony and some of the long term members it has always been a good banter place.

Thought some have not visited here for a while

Apart from people moving on from E90 and not remaining here, the earlier years had a different style of conversation, partly due to the fact that all the cars had BMW warranty so people weren't joining to find how to get cheap parts or worry about strange noises/vibrations and the like.

Since it was much newer then, lots of threads on various subjects were started that had never been previously discussed so most conversation was reasonably fresh but now we get lots of posts from newish members asking questions that have been asked and answered dozens of times already.

is the obvious response to people who ask old questions but I have some sympathy because I don't think the search function is very good when looking for something too specific.

The off-topic forum is probably the freshest of the four forums since it doesn't suffer from the above problems.

...You also never hear from the UK forum moderators any more - which is a pity.

This is a great forum but I also miss reading the banter it had with various people that are no longer here. Some people changed cars, busy at work etc.

Interesting posts from people like Steve who I think gave up after getting banned temporarily? Helen, don't know what happened to her? Tony setup another wonderful new restaurant but think he still moderates, even Will has stopped posting regular, enjoyed his weekly filth. John gone AWOL after marrying a young bird and selling the slk for some horses in the country.

It's all changing but still a great place.

When I started here I was all over all the UK forums.

Now though, I am only here in the off-topic section. Never even look at any of the other sections. I probably should, but since the birth of my daughter in June, my cars have taken a bit of a back seat (as evidenced by the 1/2" of filth covering them).

Still check the off-topic section at least once or twice a day though. I like it. Plenty of random, interesting chat.

I agree with all that has been said. I haven't owned an e90/91/92 since I sold my 335d in January 2008. I hardly ever go to the 'on topic UK forum'. I really enjoy this site having been contributing for nearly six years - great site and great people, lots of people have come and gone along the way, but there is a core of people who seem to stick around. I like the varied topics of discussion and you guys have put up with my numerous 'what car' threads over the years. I even consider this to be a free 'What Car' magazine with all the car reviews from our ubiquitous Palmnuts!

Only ever made it to one meet, (my wife was mercilessly cynical about me going off to meet a group of men in cars in a car park!) but it was the famous Carlos dip stick episode.... Never to be forgotten!

Long may it continue........

Totally agree, this is the only forum that I have been on regardless of what car I have. Some great people on here, I really need to get my arse to a meet so I can put names to faces..

Does anyone know when the next meet is?

I also rate this forum very highly.

There are only two forums where I've breached the 5000 post mark, this one and my own (where I've more than doubled it). I'm just not interested in the banter enough to do it anywhere else.

All marque specific forums will rise and fall: But the reason this one is as strong as it is still (Although it is on an obvious downturn and has been for a good year truth be told) is the people that have hung around long after moving on from the car that brought them here.

I went for a year without an E9x but had no consideration toward moving on whatsoever; And in a way - it's this forum that cemented my desire to get another E9x after that (The 335d ).

On that note though...
I don't feel that enough of us are making the same choices for us to say move to F30post or whathaveyou. I also feel that BMW's marketing strategy means that the bimmerpost model (Seperate entire subsections for each model designation) is bound to mean that future marque forums on bimmerpost could never be as good.
Where we had E90post we're now feasibly going to have subforums for 3 different likely replacement cars: The 2 series, 3 series and 4 series. Even if we all stayed with the same brand: Chances are that'd split the community likely in 3. We do need a place to call our own, for those that want it.

I would be more than willing to invite you folks onto my other forum which is marque independant and will stand the test of time - unlike this one which may eventually fall by the wayside. However, I don't feel that the time for such a thing has yet come and wouldn't want to push advertising of my own community to the detriment of this one.

Again maybe something to talk about further in future - as I don't want to be called out for pushing any agendas or etc. That's not what this topic is about.

Last question re the meet scott, I'm organising a mini meet in March at the Ace just for those that want a quick 2 hour catch up. I imagine that Matt (Halfpenny) will sort a summer Gloucester meet again (Although if only 2 other cars turn up again it might unfortunately be the last.. Let's try and put in a good showing chaps! ) and hopefully Rog / Gav will sort a northern meet (Best meet possibly ever, certainly since UK9) this year too. Those will be the big ones.

Cheers
Dave

Carlos and I will be sorting a Cambs met for late spring (or as soon as we feel the weather is behaving reliably) which are typically smaller in attendance but we do sniff out some excellent roads...

Sounds like the formation of a cunning plan does that Si. As you know, I'm in without being asked - as long as I'm free. Look forward to it.

Yes the only precursor is that I am back on my summer tyres for it

This thread is a little bit ghey but i do have to agree. It's a pretty good forum.

I could have wrote many of the posts above. Sold my e90 a few years ago now, I actually liked this forum more than I ever liked my e90 . I tend to join a lot of forums but I stick around on very few, the only 2 are really this one and Z4forum which in an odd way is like a parallel universe. I no longer venture into any other area of this forum unless I want a laugh at all the "bruv" type banter and to see what people are doing to these cars now. I never comment though, no point in being rude.

I tend to pop in here several times a day. As long as the familiar names stay I probably always will and will no doubt remain relatively ignorant to the other areas of the e90 forum and the site as a whole. When I bought the f20 I ventured into the F20 section and it's not a patch on here, went to babybmw and while it's better it's still not the same.

I'm fairly new around these parts as I've only had my E92 for a year. However, I feel very comfortable when it comes to posting on here. On some forums you are wary as to what you post, what information you give away about your car and so on and this is mostly due to the more frequent posters who seem to be a decent bunch.

There are some very helpful people on this forum that are always willing to give up their time.

I will keep an eye out for the meet that Sheps and Carlos are organising, sounds promising.

I shall be sticking around for a few years.
