Hi everyone I was told that BMW CPO cars add $6-8k to the price just because they are certified. My question is it better to buy a non-CPO BMW and then add the warranty?

it takes around 2K to get a car certified at a dealership and that should be difference between a CPO'd and non CPO'd vehicle...

It depends on what type it is... If you get a cpo with the maintenance program upgrade it's $2,095 for us 3ers

That's the cost for the maintenance program only, not including the CPO. You can have maintenance with/without CPO.

OP, it is better to buy a non-cpo bmw and add warranty if you want coverage for accessories, e.g. radio or navigation as these are not covered under CPO warranty.

It is also to better to find the exact car you want in the condition you want, whether CPO or not and add warranty than settling for a CPO car, just because it is CPO.

You can expect to pay a $2-3K premium for a CPO car or car with BMW extended warranty. Another $2K if it has maintenance as well.

A CPO car is good if it is exactly what you are looking for. CPO cars should have additional financing benefits via BMW FS depending on the model/year - and that is the ideal time to buy them.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you purchase a warranty that covers everything?

CarChex.com has a pretty good aftermarket warranty. When searching for aftermarket warranties make sure they are "exclusionary" not "inclusionary" meaning the contract states "This, this and this are NOT covered" instead of "We will cover this and this."

Another thing to look for on aftermarket warranties is one that covers wear and tear items. Did your shock absorber blow out? A warranty that doesn't cover wear and tear items will not cover it.

With all that said a CPO warranty covers everything but the radio which can be expensive on an iDrive car, and knowing BMW's will probably be the first thing that goes out.
