Thoughts on my dyno today..
I did 33 runs datalogging today before hitting the dyno. I made sure I had the best settings without inducing ignition timing retard by looking at the CAN DME Actual Ignition Timing. Best I came up with (for 2-23firmware) 100% UT (default) and 70% ignition correction. Anything below 70% ignition correction would be inconsistent. 70% produced very consistent ignition timing and rock solid boost at ~15.5. As an aside, I made 383/412 SAE in July 2008 on Procede V2 with the same mods I have today.
procede v4 rev 2 stg 3 map 2-23 firmware UT 100% ign corr 70% Octane 94 Helix FMIC, UR catless DPs, AE catless exhaust, UR CAI, Forge DVs, Stett charge pipe Best run with the above settings was 334/369 (of 4-5 I did). This is the first dyno graph and you can see the procede datalog right below. To me datalog looks perfect from what I know about this but the numbers are 50whp less than expected?? What do you guys think, why is power this much down from expected for these mods? Next dyno graph and datalog is at 0% ignition correction as I wanted to see how the DME would do without procede's ignition timing correction. Best run here shown next. Note there was also no timing retard for that run and boost was also solid and still best numbers were 344/367 SAE (corrected). What totally baffles me is according to the logs everything looks 100% spot on yet the power isn't even close. I know the dyno is fine as luca335i and gian335i (from this forum) were on this same dyno with similar mods just a few days back (they have a thread here) and they made 373/380... I had all 6 injectors, plugs and 1 coil changed last week and took some time with procede to adapt. What the hell? Oh, posting the stock dyno and datalog at the bottom (3rd set of graphs) and one dyno graph showing all runs from today. |

why are your numbers so low?
i have a stock 335i with v4 rev 2 map 2-23 and i dynoed on a dynapack at 80% UT 100% IC at 342 hp / 390 lbs trq.

Hey Dzenno. Go back to stock dvs. IMO Forge dvs sit like shit in the stock charge pipe and it could be leaking boost. When I dynoed it was 78F in the dyno room so you should of made more power than me. Other than that Im clueless. I just found the car to be more responsive with the stock dvs. No offense to anyone with the Forge ones. Also try dynoing with a DCI instead of a UR intake. Not enough airflow to the car on the dyno. Works well on the road though. Try that and I think youll gain 10-20 whp. Give it a shot. I had the forge dvs and UR intake and thats why I ditched them both. Again this is my preference. No shitting on me whoever has these parts. Just trying to help a local forum member.

Feels really good but the numbers aren't there..same numbers on 2 different dynos too, shows consistency..I love latest v4 firmware but I don't get the numbers especially with these datalogs..this is 3rd time on dyno in the past month same results (1st time it was another dynojet and last 2 are on the same dyno, same weather conditions, temps in 40s)

Luca I made 383/412 with these same exact mods in July 2008..boost is fine so UR cai doesn't really matter for 40-50whp drop and looking at the boost logs there are no boost leaks..good to know what you're running..

It's not the dyno 1000%..I was on it last Saturday made these same numbers as today and Luca and his bro were there in between ...
John (ultimateracing335) did about 50 runs on that dyno with a jb3 ..he dynoed 425 with meth, 400 no meth with torco, 380 pump 94..not the dyno.. Given the graphs does anything to you guys look abnormal? Ignition timing goes to 13 max is that ok? |

i had boost leak once which was why i was making 30whp less than i should've been with jb3. check for vacuum leak, boost leak. then the v4 set up. try stock tune mode first and compare...

I am mistified about this Dzenno, I don't know how you could have lost 40whp over a year and have had all the warranty work you have. The torque numbers looks pretty darn good but the WHP certainly has a gap. I don't get it.
I too can vouche that the dyno is functioning fine. I put 351 SAE 361 STD down on it with DCI, FMIC, JB3 and a fully catted system with pump gas last week. I have also been wondering about aftermarket CPs and DVs as compared to stock but I doubt that it could account for the power discrepencies he is seeing. And to his point, boost leaks would show on his datalogs. This is mysterious.

Possible issues with the DPs and exhaust, is it worth it to put it up on a hoist and check the seals and piping? Just flat out guessing at this point.

There's one thing I'm happy about though. Before my injectors and plugs were replaced (when I met you Irish that last time on the dyno) my graphs would start tapering down at around 5000rpm. I'm happy to see that the power now keeps going up to past 5600rpm as it should showing improvement and a proper curve. But again, power is lost throughout the power band starting down low near 3000rpm compared to my best runs from before but its more correct curve-wise...AFRs look solid as well...

Alright, I took the time tonight to inspect the fmic hot/cold side pipes and connections. Cold side was dry, no issues. Hot side...well, the entire silicon hose was covered in oil and even the FMIC was really dirty on the bottom on that side. I took off the hose washed it, wiped/cleaned off all the dirt/oil on that side from the fmic, pipes, clamps...with soap...then put it back on triple checking a tight proper fit...then I went out for a test drive...I don't know maybeits wishful thinking but butt dyno feels stronger even though the car didn't feel much weaker before..now i remember that the silicon coupler on this side of the fmic did come off once before (last year) but was tightened back by a friend mechanic as I wasn't inclined towards touching anything on the car myself..
I had boost on my gauge go up to 16.3 peak tonight (2nd gear) which has never happened before on this stg 3 map (2-23 firmware 100% ut, 70% ign corr, 94 octane)..I'll drive it a bit and redatalog to see how it does and watch over that fmic inlet pipe..probably will redyno Tuesday/Wed to see if my newly acquired mechanic skillz have helped resolve this mystery.. Can it be that this was the cause even though there were no codes thrown and procede datalogs showed >15-15.5 psi boost.. |
