LSD anyone?

I ordered the MFactory Limited Slip Differential on Monday and it arrived Wednesday. All I am waiting for now are the seals, M3 differential bushings, and the finned differential cover to arrive from ECS Tuning before having it installed. I was quoted about $600 locally for the install. The finned differential cover had to be ordered from Germany, and per the ECS update, they are expecting it to arrive February 4th.

I have also decided to replace my run flat tires with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires, which should also help with traction. An interesting tidbit about my tires is that when I bought the car it had the 18-inch 397 style wheels and the tires on the car are 225/45/18 when in fact I should be running 225/40/18. I am going to go with the correct tire size, which should help a little with acceleration as they are one-inch shorter and five pounds per tire lighter than my current set up.

I was pretty set to install my M-Factory, until you got me thinking about that finned cover. I think it's gonna fit, but waiting to see how you make out. Plus, I'm going to have to custom mill the cover to fit it on my vert between the bracing.

Good luck!

Do you have a link to the finned diff cover?
I didn't even know they made that.

So which cars came with a welded crown wheel? I'd like to do a limited slip unit with 3.38 gearing. I'm unsure if mine is welded or built the traditional way..

Just curious, - why diff cover needs to be replaced?

Those are skinny tires. On M package cars, fronts are 225/40-18 while rears are 255/35-18. Extra width on rears provides better traction. If you do not want staggered wheels, then go with wider tires for better traction / handling.

The differential cover doesn't have to be replaced, I just wanted a finned cover mostly for the look and any additional cooling effect would just be an added benefit.

Well you got me to look into this, and in fact 235/40/18 tires will fit on my car. My current tread width is 7.8" and the 235/40/18 will have a 8.5" tread width. This is the widest tire I can safely fit on an 8.0 inch wide rim.

Get the shop to add a drain plug while you are there.
