Front Swaybar Endlink Question

I want to get new swaybar endlinks for the front. I uninstalled my Fortune Auto Coilovers back in October but I was planning on putting them back on. The first time around I had a shop install the coils. I remember them making a comment saying something negative about my stock endlinks and that it would affect drive ability. So I figured I needed shorter or longer endlinks.

I called Fortune Auto and didnt get anything specific.

Anyways I thought I would just go measure around. I measured the mounting points of an oem strut and the Fortune auto and they were identical in length. Middle of swaybar bracket to bottom.

So was the shop just blowing smoke? OR am I missing a key concept here in endlinks?

TD;DR

Do I need longer/shorter or upgraded endlinks?

Since the fixed mounting points haven't moved, but your ride height will be lower, the sway bar angle will be different. If the lowering is extreme, shorter end links can alleviate excessively shallow sway bar angles.

Im not trying to argue, Im just generally curious. If the mounting points are the same then wouldnt there be no difference no matter how high/low my car is.

Good question. Not if your lower arms are sitting higher because of a lower spring height. If the upper end link mounting point isn't raised to compensate, the sway bar angle will change by the same amount.

If you have a lowered car you will need longer endlinks to keep the swaybar in the OEM position.

I am not 100% sure, but raise your car, disconnect both end links, lower the car back down and it should be apparent what end links you need as your sways should be lined up and easy to reconnect with it on the ground.

Thanks for the advice guys.

I just put my coils on today and need to order my endlinks. I am utterly confused on how to properly measure. I measured the distance between mounting point to mounting point and it came out to 14.25". That is with the car just jacked up and wheels off. That seems like a ridiculously long endlink.

My current fender to ground measurement in the front is 24.5 and im on 235/18/40 tires.

Can someone Halp with getting the correct sized endlinks

You need to have a load on the car, the sway bar should sit parallel. With a lowered car you will need longer endlinks. The HPA adjustable endlinks and perfect because you can adjust them as you adjust the height of the vehicle.

Yeah Im actually ordering the HPA ones tonight.

Did a whole bunch of measurements and it seems that those will work best for me.

Thank you everyone

Totally correct, might think opposite but it's incorrect.

Lower = longer.

Yeah it's counterintuitive! I need to look under my car again to understand why that's true.

But I believe you guys

EDIT: wait. it just made sense. lol.
