JB4 or Turner Motorsports Stage 1 Flash?
Looking for some opinons on these mods and which one you would pick or additional suggestions. I have a 2007 335i Sedan Sport AT and I am not sure which direction to go. My local shop says Turner but price is pretty attractive on the JB4 and has some cool options. I am looking for long term relability and improved driving performance. Car will be out of warranty in 2 months but will still have be under the maintence agreement. Thanks inadvance for your input.

Not much love so far for Turner Motorsports. The only reason I am not jumping at the JB4 is my local shop says flashing the ECU is a better option and more reliable in the long run with less risk. Turner seems like a great company and more affordable than the Dinan Stage 2.

dude- shiv is right. If you want to go flash, you have to look at Cobb- you can unflash it yourself, you can resell it (turner can't) and it is a great safe tune. But you should also look at the Procede. Great tune with tons of abilities.

Your options should be Procede or COBB.

Cobb or Procede should be your choice, being that your a 2007, if you don't feel like waiting for 07 support, procede 100 percent. I would rule out the jb4 due to no timing control.

You need to be able to control timings so either Procede or Cobb.

I did much research about which tune to go for. This is my opinion...
Look at it this way...do you want to deal with the hassle of removing parts in the engine bay to get to the ECU then fiddle with connectors etc to install a piggyback? (Have a look at the thread where people have said what OEM parts they broke - quite a few of the responses are due to installing a piggyback). Or would you prefer to tune cars via email, plugging a device into the OBDII socket? Or perhaps you like the flexibility of use methanol injectors? OR want custom tuning but don't want to pay extra? OR maybe you want traction control / more options? These are the questions you need to ask yourself. I was very skeptical over a handheld flash tune as they are new to the N54 and I have only experienced piggybacks. But... I eventually decide to go with a ESS Directflash tune. It is AWESOME. I cannot emphasise this enough. After they email you back the Stage 1 & 2 files inclusive of the price and you put them on the device it is a 15 min installation whilst you polish your car. The horsepower of Stage 2 with 93 octane is impressive - equal to any piggyback or other flash tune out there. 370 RWHP for stage 2. The smoothness is unbelievable. Around town it is very driveable. I had no engine codes after a BT scan before and after. Device was able to download/upload with no issues - ECU was recognised. With the ESS flash they use the factory BMW programming, work with it and enhance it. This is why it works 100%, it is a COMPLETE solution for my needs and why I personally like it. The thing about ESS vs other flashes - they only tune BMW and have done for over 15 years. I appreciate their experience. Last edited by Gunzaro; 01-30-2011 at 04:56 AM.. |

So if I were you I would talk to each company about there own product and get the facts on their product without asking their opinion on the other and then make a conclusion. I see that you live in CA. I am in CA too (in LA). If you are near me and want to see what a JB car feels and drives like then I am more than happy to show you. Try and find someone around you with a procede car too and then compare. They are both great tunes, each with their advantages/disadvantages, you can't go wrong with either. |

most popular giac Cobb ,for flash and procede ,jb4 piggys
they have all come a long way and performance cost are even getting closer ...reliability, for all the hoopla seems to be pretty close with no real problems for any that can be atributed to tune. in the end the self preservation measures of the car that are at the core seem to be pretty good. that being said do wewantto relie on that is the question, for some. Cobb not polished yet and no 07, giac have to go to get flash, jb4 and process have to go into engine bay and put it in. I however am excited with the prospect of being able to flash and change maps with Cobb and by the time it comes out with 07 should be pretty much polished up as tune. |
