What sort of miles are you doing though. Around town you may struggle to beat that. On the motorway though it should easily do 35mpg.

best of luck with the car mate, its the reason why i got myself a pre-lci because they are known to have all the engine issues, fingers crossed I dont get them at all,
but just think, once something is changed and repaired, its a new part that wont need to be touched again, a problem down, be positive about it all, |

I have a 325i petrol 3ltr and only get 330 out of a full tank. Mpg isn't great, but unless your doing lots of motorway miles you won't get them. I do a lot of stop start, and on heavy cars kills you mpg.
What part of Surrey are you from?

Wow i get around 400-450 miles from my 335D (30-35mpg). I know its a diesel but reading this has made my day.
Good luck with sorting your car out OP. Ithink its obvious you should be getting better mpg. Have you monitored the coolant temp whilst driving? |

I average 28mpg overall in my 335i with a fair amount of city driving. On a run I'll get 35mpg at motorway speeds. |

Yeah op should be getting more mpg, and one thing you diesel boys need to remember, diesel costs more than petrol :P
So that helps us out with the whole argument of what costs more and gets you more mileage out of our pocket. Either way mate just get inpa maybe and read your car to make sure you know everything is ok |

30mpg will give circa 300/320 miles before the fuel light is on. |

i never understood the whole "sludge" thing on modern cars... your car draws fuel from the bottom of the tank 100% of the time, if there were any (there isnt) sludge and/or crap in there it would be getting sucked up constantly! |

Looking in the brochures, interestingly, the E9x diesels all have 61L tanks and the Petrol models all have 63L tanks. But this won't include the filler pipe, so if you fill it to overflow, then you'll squeeze a few litre in the filler kneck Yes, the pump draws from low down, but with plenty of fuel the contaminants have more fuel to slosh about in, when you get to the last drops all the dirt is in that last bit, so it will just clog your filters more quickly. But agree a bit, modern plastic tanks won't corrode internally anymore. I always fill at about 1/4 tank min (or whenever passing a shell station), why run it to the wire hoping there's a garage nearby? Last edited by doughboy; 07-03-2013 at 07:11 AM.. |

not a case of running to the wire, i too only use shell vpower (and of that, usually 1 of 2 garages local to work), i just don't like "wasting" a qtr tank of fuel :P id rather use it all and get a full tank of fresher juice in there.
guess its a potato potato thing :P back on topic now! short journeys for a 2.0L petrol in a 2Tonne car, isn't going to net you very good MPG... even the book figures for the urban cycle is only 32mpg, and those figures are ALWAYS very generous... |

Oh and I managed to get 35.7mpg / 444.1 miles in a single tank once in my 335i!
Was super super super gentle but still cruised at normal motorway speed.
