E92 electric power steering issue
Hello everyone, I’ve tried searching all over the web but can’t seem to find anything on the issue I have. The electric power steering goes off randomly but very rarely. When the warning light comes on it seems as though the EPS is only half active but there are times when it’s completely knocked out and it’s like trying to steer a tank. If I were to suggest a pattern I can say it usually occurs on longer drives perhaps 45mins after I start driving. Turning the engine off and restarting often clears the issue and it’s fine to drive after. If I let the car sit overnight it almost always goes back to normal. I bought the car of a trader in November so I think I’m covered according to consumer rights (which I think is 6 months) but the trader is closed at the moment due to COVID 19, so I’m not getting any responses from them. Has anyone experienced/solved a similar issue or have any suggestions as to what could be going wrong.

I did and still do have this issue, can't remember the sign but it said steering malfunction or something on the idrive.
Came on once in October last year and once in February this year. Couldn't figure out either but some suggested it may be water/moisture on the connectors specially as I'm missing my radiator and engine undertray thanks to previous owner. I've also read about some e9x and e8x users having had to replace the rack for similar problems, so hoping mine isn't that. |
