Brake Warning Light

Just after Christmas the display flashed up brake warning, replace all pads - at 7600 miles!!! I got the techs at work to check and they the pads are fine, it went into Chandlers this morning, and Im now driving a MINI ONE, which despite the lack of power is a geat drive. They called me mid afternoon, saying that the ECU needs updating(which they will do overnight), and they have come across this problem on a few E90's. Anyway my initial concern was will it wipe my Emaps map. I rang Simon and he had also heard of this, and said some delaers do a complete ECU update even if it is running the latest software, and some just update the bits that need doing - its pot luck. Anyway Simon did say that if it was wiped he would re-install it no problem for nothing.

I also got my handbrake adjusted, which has been poor from day 1, and they have finally sorted my xenons out - The os light has never reached far enough, compared to the ns light - as the xenons are supposed to be set level/neutral from factory.

Roll on tomorrow when I get it back and I hope the map hasnt been over written

Glad simon said he would sort you out if you lost the map.

Please let me know if you do notice any loss of power. It would be interesting to know if they do change that.

I have had brake failure come up past 3 months but all three brake lights work lol

Interesting.

I went to Bird's before Xmas and was informed the BMW are increasingly doing a full ECU update, and I was told by a very reliable scource that at least 19 people had 'lost' their MPG enhancement mod.

Barstewards!
FFS, were only trying to save the planet, that's all
I'm thinking of officially complaining to Al Gore

Hope 'it' remains undiscovered OliH.

When BMW upload the latest sofware it overwrites your re-map, so you have to get it re-written - Most mappers will do this a not cost to you

Not much more to say really G, just what I was told by Kevin at Bird's.
BMW are becoming far more aware of remapping and are increasingly just carrying out full ECU updates regardless.
They don't go looking for them (remaps), there is no need, the update just wipes em,like an eraser rubs out a pencil mark.

Hopefully Oli will confirm the info is incorrect, by confirming his car is as powerful when he gets it back, fingers crossed, as if not some remappers are going to be very, very busy and increasingly poorer!

You'll be alright with a piggyback, as long as you leave nothing behind or any clues to it's existence when you take it out prior to any servicing work.

James is the man to talk to re piggyback's.

Ordinarily no they probably would not look, but put yourself in BMW's shoes - a supposed aesthetically modified 335i comes in for a routine service, most Techs would think 'Mmmm what else has this guy done', goes looking, finds what he suspect's is there, and pops goes your warranty,or a fight over what part of your warranty is nullified ensues.

I personally would take out what ever it is you have, come service time,ok it'll be a hassle, but worth it in the end.

You need to read some of the American threads about procede and the like, loads of shit happens across the pond,in regard to warranties going down the pan.

I'd definitely take it off prior to a service.
