I am Euro delivering my 335i next week (picking it up in Munich). Keeping it stock while knowing that I can have 100 more HP for $1500 is like going on a date with Pamala Anderson and only staring at her face.

I will be starting a thread asking you all to help me STOP modifying my 335i.

such a mess. Im going to leave it for the time being, and just let one of my friends assume the lease. Either that or pay me an extra grand in pocket to at least somewhat cover all the parts you're getting for practically nothing.

Not me But he has semislicks, light weight wheels, LSD, Bilstein PSS9 suspension adjusted to fit his cornering style and on the top of the list is that cornering is his hobby

I'm staying stock (motor) for now as well. Enjoying the car a bit and learning it's limits before I add more power. I'm sure it's fun as hell to those who added a Xede/Procede/Etc. type unit. I'm afraid to ride along with someone who has one, because I'll probably want it.

Why would exhaust, suspension, and LSD void your entire powertrain warranty?

Being caught with a piggyback could do that for sure but exh., susp, and LSD??

Leased cars can be modded, you just sell them before the lease is up.
You pay off the lease company with a buy-out amount just the same as you would a loan company. No different just lower payments for 3 years.

only legit tunes in his "honest opinion"....
I am curious as to what his reasoning is on this...
He sounds like he knows what he is talking about...

How are their ECU tunes diff. from Vishnu's?

Both use ECU flashes. Hartge is ECU flash only, conservative: 340HP / 450NM crank. Alpina: 360HP / 500NM crank, changes the engine hardware as well. Boost 1.1 bar ( 16psi ), compression ratio 9.4:1 using Mahle pistons.

What I believe he meant is that those tunes are likely developed getting help/views from Bmw and thus they could be more safe.

Power is not the problem at most tracks (large tracks like Road America exempt). Handling is where the fast times are.

In fact, power at most tracks is most useful for passing, something fairly limited at most track events (but extremely useful in racing!)

more power will lead to higher speeds at the ends of straightaways and that will require heavier use of the brakes, that's what I was going for

Coming from AWD cars on track....this BMW is definitely different..and takes a different line. It is not like my spec miata was...a total momentum car. I now have some power to play with..but I cannot get on the power before the apex..like with the Audi...where it just pulls you out of the turn. I spent lots of years finding out what worked well on track/autox with Audi platforms...now I got some learning with this E90. I am going fast enough down the straight..I am more worried getting the car to rotate when I want it to. Brakes, for right now, are not an issue. I will probably do a stickier pad...when I can find one..probably a pagid black..maybe pagid orange. So, for those reasons..plus the fact that many of the tuners are taking their time tuning the 335i, I will be holding off. Trust me guys..I have an appetite for power too. At some time I will probably have some type of tuning....just probably gonna wait another 6-9 months. I am an analytical guy by nature...I like to soak up the research and then decide what to do. I am not an early adopter on anything.

I'm sure you are a very good driver with a lot of experience on the track and it's clear and understandable why you decide like this. I bought the 335i for fun and use it as my daily driver, never tracking it. I have the PROcede. I'm not sure whether your or my car will be in a better condition next year ...

So it's all about the purpose and behavoir when it comes to reliability.

S4 to 335 has been doing this a while (I knew him, he probably does not remember me--Stage 3 Maroon Audi Avant) with the Audis and he was (is) a well known member of that community. I was a very early adopter of the APR stage 3 turbo upgrade for the A4 and it was a hellacious road of beta testing (the plain old chip was fantastic but i could not leave well enough alone). I'm not saying that anyone is good/bad right/wrong, its just that a little bit of caution is warranted when talking about this technology and that you really have to understand that 18k miles of testing is not a lot of testing, and we are on the cutting edge of a new technology here.

I've done a lot of mods to my cars over the years (the last was a twin screw supercharger on a porsche 928 that made 411 HP at the wheels) and know first hand that if you are on the cutting edge you bleed. that said, if you assume the risk, have a great time and can pay to play, all the power to you.
