How high can you get?

I was driving down the highway the other day and decided to check the fuel consumption and it was a lot higher than I expected:
What's your best? I know you can manipulate the numbers by accelerating then resetting just as you let off and coast ( I got it to say 99.9) but what's your highest highway MPG?

After cruising down to LA on the I-5 for about 2 hours I was at 32mpg I think. And the average speed was 87mph which impressed me more

You left out an important parameter. Over what distance are you reading mpg?

The best my 328i has done over a 250 mile tankful is about 33 mpg, normal is closer to 29 or 30 for highway driving and 24 overall.

And do you have a turbo or NA motor? It makes a difference.

I used to have a ~20 mile highway commute to work every day. Back then, my average MPG was around 23-25. Now that I work 3 miles from home and drive through morning downtown rush hour I'm lucky to get 15mpg. When my Vanos went out a few months ago I was seeing 8-9mpg for a while lol.

My old Jetta got around 40mpg on mixed city/hwy which I sometimes miss, but I didn't get this car for the gas mileage

My husband's tuned/modded Challenger RT gets better mileage than I do, haha.

Hey, Tom
Great points. This was over about 150 highway miles at around 70ish and cruise control most of the time so throttle adjustments were not that drastic. It's pretty flat here in south Florida so hills were not much of a factor in lowering the average but the subtle inclines followed by long declines certainly played in my favor. My engine is non-aspirated ( )

Normally I'm not even close to this number, typically it's low 20's which is why I was compelled to post this in the first place. I was actually thinking my low 20s was shi++y and I was suddenly seeing something more "normal". I guess low 20s for predominately highway driving is on point and high teens for city.
