What is Max Rear Tyre Width 335i M-Sport ??

I am about to change wheels & tyres

, current are standard M-Sport 193M’s with RF Bridgestones.

OLD WHEELS:

FRONT: 8J x 18 (225/40) ET34.

REAR: 8.5J x 18(255/35) ET37.

Car has standard M-Sport suspension (not lowered).

NEW WHEELS: Tyres = Non-RF Conti 5P’s.

FRONT: 8.5J x 19 (235/35/19) ET 35.

REAR: 9.5J x 19 (?????) ET 35.

I would like to know if I can run 275/30/19’s on the rear with no problems ??????

One of my reasons for asking is, front rim width has increased by 0.5 inch, and “recommended” tyre size is 235 (one size up), rear rim is width has increased by 1.0 inch and “recommended” tyre appears to be 265 also one size up, which is strange as rim width increase is double the front, my experience tells me it should be 275.

So fellow Pre-LCI 335i M-Sport COUPE owners, with 8.5J x 19 ET35 & 9.5J x 19 ET35 rims what tyre sizes do you run, without problems ?????? (I know some run 275 Falkens, but maybe sidewall contour is different on Conti's).

If any of you are running 275's, how much clearance do you have between tyre and inner wheel arch when unladen.

I do not want to increase negative camber, roll arches, etc etc, you comments/advice very much appreciated.

£540 is a lot to waste if 275’s cause a problem !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I *think* 265 section tyres are the widest you can use without the rub.....

275 wide will fit yea! May not want "Heavies" in the rear of the car though!

275/30/19 Falken 452's on ET35 Alufelgen 9.5 x 19 rear wheels.
Car is on Bilstein PSS9/10's and sits fairly low.

No rubbing even with 2 passengers in the rear.

I think it depends on the tyre you use. 275 is possible - particularly on a tyre with a curved profile (eg Falken 452), tyres with a squarer profile would rub with 275.

Any type of Conti's are a no no as they are quite fat on the sidewalls. Especially SC3.

Hi, 265, if you go over a bump the 275s touch the inner insulation. They scrub. Also the weight of the car and camber mean you will have quick inner wear, so your tyre pressure needs to be adjusted to reduce only inner wear, but you will have to change the geometry of the axle to even the wear between the inner tyre and outer tyre. Also the grip because your tyre will drive on the inner part more rather than the whole tyre, only right pressure will balance it well.

I have run prosso pirellei tryres on mine, 265 with the geometry set up for 245s , i have 25% more wear on the inners of the rear tyres. Worse grip than rfts in rainy weather etc, you have to keep the right pressure for good grip , nearly 7% (guess) lower than bmw's recommended to get balanced grip between the inner part of the tyre vs outer part.

But cornering will be a piece of cake at high speeds.

Decision made, as I am going to try Conti 5P's, it will need to be 265/30/19.

Once fitted, I will check and post clearance measurement, may be of use to someone else when making their minds up.

Check those fatties out next to Vred Sessanta 265/30 19 and the 18 inch OEM Flintstones.

That is good intel, thanks. I have the same wheels and damper/height combo.
The 265 Falkens look stretched dont they on these wheels.
My wife keeps munching away at them as there is no rim protection.
Shame they dont have a lip like Bridgestone or Toyos to save them

Theyre not the same though.

The Big fat Contis were 35 profile instead of 35.

Contis SC3's are fat (comparatively speaking) to many other brands which exacerbates the problem.

To illustrate, I took a picture of my SC3 255/35 18 next to the original Bridgestone RE050A 255/35 and guess what. The Conti is a physically much bigger tyre all round.

Fills the arches out nicely though...
