My E92 Mods - with pics!

I’ve been lurking here for a while and felt it was about time I did a quick ‘build thread’ on my car. Well, not so much a build thread as the finished article actually. I know you guys love pics, so here we go:

Car as purchased: E92 MSport Coupé in Sparkling Graphite with 3.0litre direct injection N53 engine and 6-speed manual transmission. Notice bling chrome grille (yuk); gap between tops of tyres and wheelarch (too big) and awful pre-LCI offset of the rear wheels (buried inside the arches).

Name: Orig.jpg
Views: 22366
Size: 232.2 KB

OK, mods in no particular order. Front end: BMW Perf grille; Lamin-X on fogs; Cyba scoops (in black, so you probably can’t see them – and except on the Autobahn they’re a waste of money anyway); 10 mm spacers.

Name: Front.jpg
Views: 7760
Size: 281.8 KB

Rear end: SSDD CF diffuser; M3 bootlid spoiler; BMW P/exhaust; notice wider track with 15mm spacers.

Name: Rear.jpg
Views: 18127
Size: 244.7 KB

Name: Rear 2.jpg
Views: 9715
Size: 197.9 KB

Side: Lowered with Ohlins Road & Track with non-RFTs and spacers. Couldn't go much lower without smashing the underside of the front bumper on speed bumps. How those guys in the US who ‘slam’ their E92s manage to drive, I don’t know…

Name: Side.jpg
Views: 6302
Size: 261.0 KB

Others: Lamin-X on repeaters and chrome indicators in headlights (avoiding reduced illumination from headlights themselves).

Name: Ind lens.jpg
Views: 6010
Size: 202.6 KB

Name: Repeater.jpg
Views: 5829
Size: 159.8 KB

Ohlins R&T:

Name: Ohlins.jpg
Views: 5750
Size: 194.7 KB

P/Exhaust:

Name: Perf Ex.jpg
Views: 5853
Size: 165.2 KB

LED Angels:

Size: 181.1 KB

Best two mods? The P/E and the Ohlins by a country mile.

For the future? The car’s just about how I want it TBH. I’ve considered an M3 front ARB, but for road use, I’m very happy with the improvements in handling from the Ohlins kit, so probably won’t bother. Likewise I’d considered strut and chassis braces, but the MSport already has pretty good OEM bracing, so probably not worth the money. For the same reason I’m reluctant to consider a re-map, as the bhp gain per £ spent is really poor with this engine (being non-turbocharged). Only other thing is a set of CSL reps, but I wouldn’t go over 18” as I don’t want to do anything to spoil the fantastic ride quality of the Ohlins.

Hope you like…but all comments welcome.

Wow, looks great! Mind me asking where you got the lamin-x done / bought from?

Love the SG E92s! So sleek! 19s won't ruin the ride if you're talking standard tyres - plus they will improves the looks by a country mile! Bet the P/E is a killer

How are the angels during daylight btw?

Nice stuff!

What sheet size did you go for to take into account all lights on the car, front / rear and side lights? And what shade too? Liking it alot! I know another guy, P5UML has done it to his as well but I'm a bit uncertain how it would look on a titan silver!

Very nice car, done a really good job on all the mods.
What LED bulbs are they in the angel eyes? Wish mine were half as bright as that and mine set me back nearly £100!

First things first, I gave you the wrong link before. I got the film here:

http://lamin-x.co.uk/

I think you've misunderstood. I only covered that part of the headlights in front of the indicators (check the pics again) and the repeaters. I didn't do the rears. AFAIR I bought a piece 12" x 8", but if you're doing all the lights, you will need to measure up and order the correct size for that job. The shade was 'Subtle Tint' by the way.

The yellow on the fogs was a bit I had left over from a previous car. I would really recommend Lamin-X for the fogs which are so vulnerable to stone damage. The plastic in Lamin-X is really thick and repels all stones and other road debris.

so true about lamin-X protecting lights, i have had all the lights wrapped and it really does protect them, after a year of having it on you can see the hammering they get as there are loads of marks on em!

Thanks for the nice feedback guys! The bulbs are shown here:

http://www.burgertuning.com/BMW_LED_angel_eyes.html

I didn't buy then from the Sates though, but from Juiced Up Tuning in the UK:

http://www.juiceduptuning.co.uk/

Strangely they're not listing any LEDs at the moment, so might be worth dropping them an e-mail...

Hope that helps.

Yes of course. But I prefer the contrast of the black against grey which mine gives. And since all new E92 coupés now have the body colour rear diffuser (well the Sport Plus Edition models anyway), I wanted something different!

Sorry, will have to disagree with you there 1SH. TBH there's not much about the LCI facelift I like: the new mirrors are too big, the front treatment sucks and I actually prefer the larger reversing lights on mine!

Looks fantastic.

Well done for knowing where to stop and not putting crap all over it just for the sake of it. I really want to know what the BMW Performance Exhaust is like vs the Milltek exhaust.

I know YouTube clips aren't definitive, but after a P/E, the Milltek sounds a bit tame to me...

I've been at a cross roads with mine for a while now as to whether to mod or change to a 35. 335i's seem to be popular as there was a wide choice not too long ago but far fewer now.

I agree with the LCi comment, in SE spec. I think LCi looks much better in M Sport guise. I'd change the back lights.

I like the back of yours. I think it's crying out for some alloys. I've also debated between 18s and 19s.

Looking good! Did you have to remove the rear bumper to put the new diffuser on?

No Paul, the original MSport 'insert' unclips and unbolts with the bumper in situ and the new diffuser takes its place.

This pic might help, though this is a BMW performance one. The SSDD diffuser is one piece (part 4 is not separate):
