Try taking out the JB4 as previously suggested and see what happens then.

I had every error code there was when my tune went bad. Pulled tune problem solved. At this stage i would seriously give it a shot.

The problem is the JB4 isn't even activated, its in Map0, and these issues are still occurring.

I've calmed down a bit since yesterday, had some time to think it through a little.

Step 1: Maybe I'll get lucky like YA-91 who switched wheels and the car came good. My SSR's arrived in Sydney yesterday, I paid for them yesterday so they should arrive in Brisbane early next week. If I organise getting some tyres on and fitting the wheels, maybe I'll finally get lucky and the problems will go away. Failing that, there is always step 2.

Step 2: Take it to a BMW Specialist or have a mate come around and help do the airbag pull and steering angle sensor clean and board solder etc.


Step 1 & 2 are interchangeable but I've waited close to 5 months for these wheels and being the impatient guy I am, I want to see them on the car.

Failing these 2 steps, Brisbane BMW quoted $2k+ for a new steering angle sensor install. Yikes.... But if I can convince YOUI to pay it, under my claim, then it wouldn't be so bad....

So it looks like the saga will have to go on for another week atleast before there is any resolution.

The steering wheel DIY is very easy, I didn't bother with any anti static or soldering, as soon as I had the wheel and case off I could see the crystals on the optical disc, one wipe with an alcohol swab and problems went away and haven't been back. It took just on 1 hour including the time the car was sitting without the battery connected to discharge the cans.

Actually physically disconnecting the JB4 is also worth a try, I can't imagine that there is much involved in this step and it at least eliminates it from the possibilities.

Not too sure on how the JB works but when i had these issues with procede regardless of what map i was in, even the stock map, it still happened, even if its a stock map the information is still going through the JB AFAIK ?

I had the steering lock out too, couldn't even start the car at times. Honestly i would just give it a go you never know.

Is it possible in any way shape or form that ANY water has gotten inside your ECU box ? even just a drop ? Sitting for so long could have been out in the elements getting rain bucketed down might have got inside ? had a guy on here recently had all the crazy errors out of now where. Turned out a tiny bit of water had gotten onto his JB. Check the pins for any form of corrosion, that was what happened on my procede, cleaned it all up, pulled the tune, perfect.

Good news, but mostly bad news.

Good news. After a few recommendations from friends to take the car to Brisbane Motor Works I was greeted by the owner. After a quick chat and a glance outside he knew my car - he performed ALL the modifications on the car and knew more about the car than I did. Hallelujah!!

In more good news my SSR's were sent out of Sydney yesterday, so I should receive them sometime this week, probably tomorrow - yay!

Bad news. Steering angle sensor is definitely fucked. $1,650 to replace. Have I mentioned how much I fucking hate this car? Being that its a common break I can't confirm or deny if it was because I hit the concrete kerb at like 20km/h and the steering angle sensor is in the steering wheel, which is connected to the wheels... or if it just randomly failed like it did to a friends car at a set of traffic lights....
I'm going to try and get it fixed under the insurance claim. Now I have to go through the hurdles with Youi - who arent even returning my emails or phone calls as it is.... Get a quote back this afternoon, send it off, hope they approve, get it fixed etc. Its never ending, and I'm so fucking over it.

Tad disappointed. I was expecting another inch of lip in the rear. Regret not going for the 10.5 +30 now, instead I opted for the 10.5 +43. Atleast the 10.5 +43 will be an easy fit.

Youi from my experience with my gfs claim are the absolute worst in terms of customer service.

We got served with a court case due to a very minor incident and youi were meant to represent us in court however they failed to show multiple times. They took a large fee ~$500 and never turned up!

Took phone calls on the hourly to resolve the issue and every time they said they would call back, they never did!

AAMI in stark contrast have been a lot better.

Seriously invest the hour in removing the steering wheel and clean the optical disc, 98% chance your problems go away. If it was damaged from the accident my assumption would be you would have had the errors straight away and it would not have been intermittent.

I sent it to the shop to do exactly that. I don't touch anything with airbags, lost an uncle about 20yrs ago playing around with an airbag install on an EF Falcon. Snapped his neck. DOA. Fuck that.

Its fine. airbags have just always been a no go for me because of that.

It's all just so damn de-motivating. It seems like when 1 thing goes right, 2 things go wrong.

Disconnect the battery and wait 10minutes before removing the air bag.

Without a battery the bags won't detonate.

Also, remove the jb4 as stated. It does interfere on map 0.

Your bad luck is unmistakable, but you're not really trying the easy fixes that people are offering and ultimately it's going to be your loss if you keep throwing money at it for the next owner.

Just got it back from the shop. They wiped the codes and didn't pull the air bag as requested. Sigh. Looks like if you want something done, you have to do it yourself..

I have a mate who has done the steering wheel fix himself with his own 135i. I just have to tee up a time to have him do it.

Nah, his are Work Meisters (what I was going to go with, but changed my mind because I've had about 7 sets over the years). I went with SSR Professors.

You can spot the differences easily enough.

Wheel bolts - Work Meisters aren't flush on the barrel, sit flush on Professors
Spoke Thickness - Work Meister have wider, chunkier spokes, Professors are thinner in width and structure
Spoke Design - Work Meister are much more curvy from the hub to the barrel, Professors are rather flat, minimal curves.
Spoke Length - Meisters stop at the inner barrel, Professors extend to the outer barrel.
